Neon Genesis Evangelion Collab Coming To Free-To-Play Anime MMO

Evangelion characters starring in latest Tower of Fantasy update.

Developer Hotta Studio revealed a Neon Genesis Evangelion collab for its free-to-play MMORPG, Tower of Fantasy. Evangelion characters Asuka Langley Soryu and Rei Ayanami will join as limited-time playable characters alongside Shinji Ikari as an ally in the first half of 2024. Players will also encounter iconic mecha from the series including EVA-00, EVA-01, and EVA-02 in the story.

There isn't a release date for the Evangelion collab, only the release window for the first half of 2024. Hotta Studio hasn't revealed the exact details of what you need to do to claim the characters or how far you need to be in the story to reach the Evangelion plotline. In the meantime, the developers ask players to celebrate Tower of Fantasy's 1.5 anniversary with a new story chapter and programming-savvy Simulacrum named Plotti. Many activities, rewards, and exclusive items will arrive with the 3.6 update on January 30.

Hotta Studio's anime-style MMORPG first gained traction thanks to Genshin Impact comparisons. While it may have the similar real-time action and progression systems, the MMO-leaning nature of the game separates it from HoYoverse's award-winning action RPG.

Evangelion is ToF's first collab with another series. Series collabs are common in mobile RPGs, so it's possible there will be more in the future if this one goes right.

Tower of Fantasy is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, iOS, and Android.
