The hometown favorite Luchessi of team Alliance earned himself a crucial top 2 finish in Group A at the 2013 DreamHack Open Championships, and a slot in the winners bracket for the playoffs. After an opening loss to Korean Protoss Jo 'Patience' Ji Hyun, Luchessi bounced back with three consecutive wins including a comeback against DreamHack Valencia Champion Ko 'HyuN' Seok Hyun.

"I studied most of the players coming here, so I have something prepared for all the players", Luchessi after his win over Ko. "I'll do the best I can with the best I got and I hope I can make it far. I'm a bit worried about my own play to be honest, but it seems to be going better and better the more I play."

StarTale's 16-year old Zerg phenom Lee 'Life' Seung Hyun swept his group, including a dominant performance over Mun 'MMA' Seong Won.

"There's not a player I want to avoid or meet, I think I'll just win no matter what", a confident Lee said after his against Mun. "Here at DreamHack I've regained my confidence and believe I can beat anyone right now. As long as I get to the finals, I'm pretty confident I'll win the whole tournament. If I were to win, it would be a really good way for me to start the next year."

Ko, Park 'JYP' Jin Young, Choi 'Polt' Seong Hun, and Dario 'TLO' Wünsch have qualified through to the playoffs into the losers bracket. Pedro 'LucifroN' Moreno Durán and Son 'StarDust' Seok Hee have been eliminated.

The matches can be watched live on the DreamHack SC2 Twitch.tv stream.
