CD-ROM and DVD-ROM distributor Multimedia 2000 announced that it had licensed online strategy game Mystic Mayhem from its developer, Mystic Games, and plans to release the game in July.

The game is entirely Java-based. "The fact that is written 100 percent in Java, allows us to offer the software to almost all computer platforms, and allows us to upgrade the game incrementally and dynamically, across the internet," said Paul Bader, president of Multimedia.

In the game, players take on the identity of a wizard who casts icons into graphical patterns on the screen to different spells, which they use against their opponents. The game will be available in retail outlets, with a suggested retail price of US$24.95.
