Electronic Arts has announced that the public beta test for Motor City Online, its upcoming online car racing game, has begun. The company is still accepting applications for the beta test at the game's official Web site.

Motor City Online is an auto racing game that celebrates the golden age of American hot rods. Players enter a persistent online community in which they can buy, sell, and trade cars and car parts. Once they have customized their car, they can challenge other players to street races, participate in time trials, or enter the circuit races. Players earn a weekly salary depending on their level, and they can increase their income by winning races or selling cars, parts, or services. The game features more than 1,000 authentic car parts and more than 60 different vehicles from Ford, GM, and Chrysler from the 1930s to the 1970s.

Motor City Online is in development at EA's Seattle studio, and it is scheduled for release this fall. For more information, take a look at our previous coverage of the game.
