Motion Sports First Impressions

We kick, ski, and juke around with Ubisoft's sports-themed minigame compilation for Kinect.

The steady stream of new games for the Xbox 360's upcoming Kinect motion-sensing add-on continues at E3 2010, with Ubisoft unveiling at its press conference another minigame compilation called Motion Sports.

Motion Sports--which was revealed via a live action trailer that blended real people with in-game play--looks to have at least three sports thus far: skiing, soccer, and American football. The skiing game could be played either solo or with two-players and looks to require players to squat as if they were on real skis and tilt their bodies left or right to change direction. The game gets competitive with two players, and we saw one of the players bend down to pick up some imaginary snow from the floor and throw it at her opponent.

Soccer was another two-player affair, with one person acting as a goalie and another as a striker. Standing side-by-side, the striker will pretend to kick the ball, while the goalie will need to move his or her body to block the incoming projectile. The final game shown was based on the NFL, with a player having to run, dodge, and turn past a series of onscreen defenders to make it into the end zone.

Few other details were released about Motion Sports, but we'll have more on the game as E3 2010 progresses.
