MonsterGecko, the maker of the PistolMouse FPS, showed up at E3 with a number of products for the console gaming scene. The company announced gamepads for both the Xbox and the PlayStation 2. Leveraging its experience with manufacturing gaming-oriented firearms, MonsterGecko also demonstrated a preproduction version of the GeckoBlaster.

MonsterGecko demonstrated a preproduction version of the GeckoBlaster at E3. The wireless gun-shaped controller works with both the Xbox and the PlayStation 2. Most gun controllers function using a light-based technology, but MonsterGecko implemented gyroscopes to make the GeckoBlaster usable on any game and to reduce the likelihood of the gun not working with a consumer's TV. Internal gyroscopes translate hand movement into corresponding movement in the gameworld. The gun also tracks angular acceleration, allowing different kinds of movements to generate varying effects. The GeckoBlaster features auto-calibration, a button to recenter movement, an analog joystick, a trigger, a D pad, and the usual complement of buttons present on most controllers. We got our grubby mitts on a working version and came away very impressed even though the product was clearly in beta. If you found yourself avoiding first-person shooters on consoles because of conventional controllers, the GeckoBlaster might convince you otherwise. MonsterGecko expects to release the GeckoBlaster in the first quarter of 2006 with a retail price of $70.

The wireless GeckoPad XB gamepad for the Xbox functions using 2.4GHz technology, enabling a working range of 60 feet. AAA batteries sustain the GeckoPad XB for numerous hours of gameplay with rumble features enabled. The controller comes in the usual configuration with the normal complement of buttons, but it also sports a few special features. MonsterGecko endowed the GeckoPad XB with the ability to record macros up to eight steps long. The controller should be available in July of 2005 with a suggested retail price of $29.95.

Like the GeckPad XB, the GeckoPad PS functions wirelessly with 2.4GHz technology. The GeckPad PS features a 30-foot range while using AAA batteries. Dual vibration motors give rumble feedback, and the rubberized coating ensures comfortable play. The GeckoPad PS offers compelling features like macro creation and turbo mode. MonsterGecko expects to have the GeckoPad PS hit shelves by July of 2005 with an MSRP of $29.95.
