The mainline Monster Hunter series has become incredibly popular in North America over the last five years thanks to the runaway successes of Monster Hunter World and Monster Hunter Rise. But if the methodical hunting loop doesn't click with you, don't write the series off just yet. Monster Hunter also has an awesome spin-off series dubbed Stories. The pair of Stories games fall within the monster tamer genre, so Pokemon fans should give them a go. And there will soon be a convenient way to experience both games with Monster Hunter Stories Collection. Releasing on Nintendo Switch on June 14, this $60 double pack is available to preorder now at Amazon and GameStop.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin has been available on Nintendo Switch and PC since 2021, but the original game has been confined to the Nintendo 3DS and mobile until now. That's changing on June 14 when the enhanced edition of Monster Hunter Stories releases on Switch, PC, and PS4 (backwards compatible with PS5). June 14 will also mark the launch of the sequel on PS4.

If you want to pick up Monster Hunter Stories Collection for PlayStation, it will only be available in digital format. The original game will also be sold separately as a digital download on Switch, PS4, and PC. Lastly, a digital-only deluxe version of Monster Hunter Stories Collection will come with some bonus in-game content, including costumes based off of popular monsters in the games and layered armor.

In case you missed it when it first came out, this Monster Hunter game is inspired by Pokemon and features its own unique take on the formula as you capture "Monsties" and hunt eggs, assembling a small army for some turn-based RPG action. Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin made great strides in polishing up the formula of the first game. That said, both games are definitely worth checking out. It's worth noting that Apple Arcade members can play Monster Hunter Stories right now on iPhone and iPad.

"With 2016's Monster Hunter Stories for the 3DS, Capcom transformed its real-time monster hunting series into something dramatically different: a colorful turn-based monster-collecting RPG," Kevin Knezevic wrote in GameSpot's Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin review. "Despite the stark change in tone and gameplay, Stories offered a new perspective on the Monster Hunter universe, making it an enjoyable alternative to the mainline series. Its follow-up, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, very much follows the template that the original 3DS game set, and despite some repetitive elements, it's another solid spin-off for the franchise."
