Mixer Streaming Service Gets Closer To Twitch With Launch Of New Feature
Throwing an app into the mix.
Mixer officially launched its mobile application for iOS and Android devices, which gives users the capability of watching streams and interacting with the community on-the-go. The app was in beta for some time, but the full release includes improved customization for finding and organizing streams tailored for specific users.
There are now options for push notifications based on the streamers you follow, tap-and-hold previews, and better navigation functions. The Mixer interface includes live recommendations and highlighted streams with auto previews, but also has filters to help users avoid unwanted content. In addition, basic options for video quality and swapping between chat and audio along with integrated social features are built-in.
Microsoft acquired Beam in 2016, which had advantages over other live-streaming services thanks to low-latency and robust interaction tools. It was renamed to Mixer earlier this year, and currently has native integration on both the Xbox One and Windows 10 PC platforms.
