Minecraft dev wants to settle lawsuit with Quake 3

Pfft, courts? words? Thats for "ladies". Real men solve their problems at the Arena, Quake 3 arena.

@Valen_Ca I think we both realize that while it is obvious that all developers want to get paid for their work, Indie developers do not come to game developing with the thought "ALLRIGHT, i'm gonna make this game, no matter how good or crappy, and i'm gonna get a load of money!!", No, I think they make the game fun and exciting to the player as possible, with the Money being a means to keep them motivated and working towards new stuff.

This is just so silly from Bethesda..I love their games..and have played all Eldar Scrolls up to date..But cmon Bethesda! Drop it! Me and many gamers out there think this is just stupid act from u..What about this boardgame i found,named Elder Signs..<< LINK REMOVED >> Think this remind more of Elder Scrolls than Scrolls!

it makes sense for bethesda to agree, it would be great publicity and would possibly gain back the respect which a lot of people seem to have lost for them when they started this lawsuit. i think both Bethesda and Mojang are great, i just hope they go through with this because it would be so awesome.

Gamers solving disputes like gamers. I like it. If Bethesda doesn't accept they lose face with me. @meke186 I have known about The Elder Scrolls since the 3rd. And not once in my life have I heard or saw anybody refer to the games as "Scrolls" or "Scrolls game". It's always "Daggerdale", "Oblivion", and "Skyrim".

why would he name it scrolls though, people call the elder scrolls games "scrolls" or "scrolls game". like youll be talking to a friend and you'll sey hey did you get the new scrolls game. so its like take one word out of it and you have a whole differentr game. i think its infringing the tm but whatever

Notch watches game of thrones, and related this proposal to Tyrion's request of trial by combat. I think this makes notch auto win in everything now, because game of thrones = wins, and Tyrion = epic win.

@supertom221 I think you have a skewed vision of indie developers, they are in it for the money, especially if that is their only job, if nobody purchased their game they would be gone just like any other major developer would. Secondly, why would Bethesda hire pro gamers to play for them? Their parent company owns ID Software, at their best they could just call up Carmack and Co. and ask for pointers on how to play the game that they developed. Also I have seen some conflicting stories about who is suing them, either Bethesda or Zenimax themselves, if it is Zenimax then they can just pull their players directly from ID, which now that I think of it would make for a far more interesting game. EDIT: It should also be noted that the reason that they are pressing the lawsuit is so that it can be shown that they are defending their trademark, even if it their reasoning is kind of shaky, this is something that has to be done due to current laws regarding how Trademarks are handled.

I feel Notch thinks this whole lawsuit is silly so to up the silliness he presented this challenge

Brilliant. Simply Brilliant. Bethesta, you shame us. I adored you guys, being the last remnants of old developers making games for fun. It seems you too are all about money. Really? SCROLLS?? not Elder Scrolls, just SCROLLS?? I didn't know Bethesta has rights over the English dictionary. What have we come to be?? This is why Indie always beats AAA when it comes to a fanbase. Because it's not about money, it's about developers expressing themselves in the world of video games and sharing it with us lucky gamers. But while the idea was brilliant, the execution shall be a disaster. Because on the incredibly slim chance Bethesta will agree to it, Bethesta probably won't use it's own devs like Minecraft devs do, but will probably hire proffesional players to do it for them. A shame, really.

If any companies have a problem...fight it out with a team deathmatch.

I love it. This should be an option for everybody in every lawsuit if you want to take it. Just give me the money though, I suck at anything Quake, fun game though.

That would be epic, if they actually do this I really hope that it gets streamed online.

Notch just earned my respect, big time. Especially for choosing a Quake game instead of a modern FPS like a CoD or a Halo game, which are way less intense. I'm not sure about the outcome though. If Bethesda accepts the proposal, they'll just hire some progamers to ensure their victory. I'm not sure Notch can do the same, even with his huge personal fan army and the money he made with Minecraft. And if he wins nonetheless, Bethesda can still sue : "but we settled it with a Quake deathmatch" isn't gonna work in court.

I reckon it should be a Street Fighter 2 Turbo Championship Edition brawl on the Mega Drive with 6 button pads to decide the winner. Thats how real men settle things.

I LOVE this idea. First time I've ever been excited about a lawsuit or an article about one here. Now if they'd just record the match and post it on YouTube... Somehow this seems appropriate, too. I mean, the suit's related to video games, so why not settle it with a video game contest. Brilliant!

best news ive heard all day lol..........VALVE vs EA for Battlefield 3 on STEAM, make it happen!!! But it has to be out of 3 on 3 different games. EA vs Valve on Counter strike source..then EA vs Valve with a game of BF2/BF3 16 vs 16 and a third game of Warcraft 3/Starcraft or DotA for the last game.
