Netflix's popular crime drama Mindhunter will not come back for a third season, showrunner David Fincher has confirmed. Speaking to Le Journal du Dimanche (via IGN), Fincher said he is "very proud" of the first two seasons, but said fans should not hold out hope for a third.

While Mindhunter might not be coming back, Fincher fans can watch his 2020 movie Mank and look forward to the Fincher movie The Killer for Netflix later this year.

"It's a very expensive show and, in the eyes of Netflix, we didn't attract enough of an audience to justify such an investment [for Season 3]," he said. "I don't blame them, they took risks to get the show off the ground, gave me the means to do Mank the way I wanted to do it, and they allowed me to venture down new paths with The Killer. It's a blessing to be able to work with people who are capable of boldness. The day our desires are not the same, we have to be honest about parting ways."

Mindhunter premiered in 2017. It stars Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, and Anna Torv as FBI profilers who are trying to learn more about serial killers. It's a brutal and dark TV series that is not for the faint of heart.
