Midway Arcade Treasures 3 E3 2005 Preshow Hands-On

Both on its own and via acquisition, Midway has racked up an impressive quantity of great racing games over the decades. Many of those racing games are now coming home in arcade form in the company's latest arcade compilation, Midway Arcade Treasures 3.

MAT3 will contain a handful of racing games, including Hydro Thunder, San Francisco Rush 2049, Rush The Rock, Race Drivin', Badlands, Super Off Road, and more. Most of the games will be emulations of the arcade originals, though Hydro Thunder, for example, is a port of one of the console versions of the game. The PlayStation 2 version of this multiplatform release was on display at a recent Midway showing, and for the most part, the games seem pretty accurate to the arcade originals. Loading is nice and fast, and the control seems fine with the dual shock controller. It is not yet known what level of steering wheel support the final product will contain.

There will also be an extras section. Though there's no word yet on what extras will be included this time around, previous collections from Midway have included interviews with the original developers, original sales-oriented videos, and other interesting curiosities.

Midway Arcade Treasures 3 will hit the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube this fall.
