Microsoft said no to PlayStation 4 exclusive Rime

Microsoft at one stage turned down a chance to own the title that would end up becoming intriguing PlayStation 4 exclusive Rime, leaked documents have revealed.

VG Leaks published the documents, which showed that Tequila Works asked Microsoft for $3 million to develop an Xbox Live Arcade version of what was then called Echoes of Siren. The title would also come to Windows 8 and Windows Phone, and was described as "Gauntlet meets Minecraft meets Jason and the Argonauts" in its pitch document.

Microsoft studios exec Phil Spencer answered a question on Twitter about why Microsoft declined the option to fund the game. "Part of job is living with mistakes," said Spencer.

"Passed on Guitar Hero...I can list many misses regretfully. I try to focus on what we did ship."

"We'll miss some, nature of the beast," he added, "it's why I don't hate when games ship elsewhere. Cool to see team's idea turn into great game."

Rime is still in development for PlayStation 4. It does not yet have a release date, but captured the imagination of many when it was unveiled at Gamescom 2013.

It doesn't surprise me that Microsoft turned it down, because in recent years they just seem to be focused on action-heavy games for the 'dude bro' demographic. That was one of the reasons why I lost interest in their platform...

Thank you for your comment . I have been saying that for the last 5 years. I love the O.G xbox it was better to me than the PS2 . O.G had great games some of my favorite games of that gen . Kingdom under fire , Panzer dragon, Jet Set Radio future and Phantom Dusk Is amazing. 360 start of good with blue dragon and the Lost Odyssey but Microscam turn 360 into a bro box all first person shooter no good RPGs no 3rd person games.

You are a fool Sony is the owner of the Demon's Soul's IP. Dark Soul's is a copy of Demon's Soul's what are you talking about. Sony did not bring it to the USA atlus did. Demon souls is a sony game develop and published by Sony Japan in Japan. But that is not to say Sony would not. Sony made a deal to let atlus published in the USA and U.K. you have no idea what you are taking about

lol microsoft aren't exactly known for excellent decisions this gen. still, their console is doing a lot better than I expected it would. gotta give them credit where its due, they are at least surviving a lot more than nintendo are right now.

@bluefox755 Do MS have any shooter exclusives other than Titan Fall coming out this year ? Forza, Ryse, Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, Kinect Rivals, Dead Rising........ I'm not sure they do.


Outside of Halo and Gears (and now Titan Fall) MS don't really have any other shooters.

I don't think Infamous is a shooter, nor do i think uncharted, sunset, quantum break are. MS have 3 shooter exclusives at the moment, most their games aren't shooters, that's my point. :)

@fricklemcgee @blackleg_sanji infamous is more like a super hero game, except you are kind of more a villain/vigilante. think god of war but in a futuristic world instead of a mythology setting.
