Microsoft announces its free Games with Gold downloads for November

<< LINK REMOVED >> We should all understand that owning hardware does not in any shape or form mean you own the software you download to it. This is simply not true and if anyone bothered to read the TOS they click agree to all the time they would realize they had also agreed that it is not true.You can spin it whichever way you would like rental, bonus, etc.... Your subscription fee is paying for it. SONY doesn't own these titles either and must provide them to you at a cost, a cost they are not paying for as it goes against the goals of any business. The cost is off loaded to the consumer, it's even better when you can make the consumer feel they are getting some extra value out of it. Anyone in business understands this, whether it's MS, SONY, Apple, Nintendo, etc... You can't survive with a negative cash flow.

I would disagree with you it isn't rentals but a bonus allowing you to play games you might not give a chance too. I love plus and hardly game online but the fact the I can have access to 15 games a month for $4 a month is great. If I like a game I can bargain ben it if I don't I can delete it. Plus I own the box therefore I own all downloads I put in it.

With the PS3, this was not the case, however, SONY decided to adopt the same policy for some reason so there must be some value to it. Value to the company of course but I'm not going to fault anyone for doing something that will make them money. This is a business after all and these companies exist to turn out profits.

@haze0986 Anyone who has a gaming habit who complains about "pricey" is a ridiculously non-self-aware person. Unless you literally never buy any games ever, it's absurd to call PC components pricey but then pay $120 for one complete game including the 50% of it that's locked away behind 15 dollar map packs or "additional" chapters.

A mid-range PC (maybe 1100 dollars) from 2010 will still run every game released at high graphics, most at ultra graphics. BF4 is the first game that truly makes older gaming PCs groan.

You don't have to spend 500 dollars. Let's assume you had to upgrade at all. You can easily drop less than 200 dollars for a new video card every 3 or 4 years and be set.

Like I said before, I pay for PS+ for the game offering which I characterized as rentals but the overall service of PS+ versus XBL, SONY is still playing catch-up. I'm pretty sure it's not just me but when a game came out on the current gen, 8 out of 10 times I got it for the Xbox if it was cross platform, simply because the XBL interface is better

@haze0986 @Grenadeh It was anything but a fantastic game. Maybe for console peasants who don't know what the first 3 good battlefield games were like and don't have a reference point. I guess you did get BF2, BC1, and BC2. Still a monumentally different experience than playing it on PC.

@haze0986 @Grenadeh If you've played BF3 as much as I have in a clan, you would puke at the prospect of even purchasing that game at a discount. It's the worst battlefield game to date. Ask anyone who actually plays it - worst client-side lazy hit detection imaginable, not to mention complete lack of balance on many of the weapons.

Even BF4 beta, which was flat out broken, was better than BF3.

Uncharted 1, 2, and 3 were good for one playthrough. Maybe two if you didn't do it on Hard the first time. Uncharted 1 and 3 certainly aren't worth money. They were good games, for a 1 time play through, cinematic story experience equivalent to paying to see all three separate Indiana Jones movies. Frankly those were worth more.

"I don't let my sub run out" (I don't - except that one time which was an accident because they just didn't charge me again) is the equivalent to being forced to pay for those games if you ever want to play them again after not touching them for months - when you could purchase them for dirt cheap.

It's the very epitome of renting, you're paying money to keep using something that you don't legally own.

@haze0986 @Grenadeh What makes that paying for itself? 2 shitty games, 1 good game, and 1 mobile shitty game? You're saying that 8 dollars for 2 months of PS+ is paying for itself. I'm pretty certain you could redbox or gamefly that crap for the same price or comparable.

I really don't know, excluding PS+ I don't rent things. I use the waning power of my American dollar to take risks as a consumer and find out if games suck or not. It makes no difference to me.

@BorgMind00 @haze0986 @Grenadeh @jasongm The games are the only reason I got Plus. Games that for the most part I haven't even had time to play. Now to be fair, XBLG is a paywall. You can't multiplayer without it. So I bought it because I had to.

They didn't add most of the features for years. Cloud saves on XBLG didn't even exist until 2011.

@haze0986 @BorgMind00 @jasongm Yes giving you actual free games that are permanently yours, that's a ripoff. PSN is unstable and squirrely as hell compared to XBL. GWG wasn't a part of Xbox Live for the past 8 years. It is brand new, it has nothing to do with the price you pay for Gold other than the fact that you get this extra crap with gold.
