Metroid Dread Buying Guide: Special Edition, Amiibo, And More

Metroid Dread is the first new side-scroller in the series in 19 years, and it's available now on Nintendo Switch.

Metroid Dread, a new side-scrolling entry in the series, is available now for Nintendo Switch. Dread should hopefully tide fans over until the eventual release of Metroid Prime 4. If you didn't preorder a copy of Metroid Dread, you'll miss out on some potential preorder bonuses. However, we've seen the cool special edition and Amiibo figures go in and out of stock on launch day, so you might be able to snag one of those (or both) if you're lucky.

The Mercury Steam-developed title earned an 8/10 in our Metroid Dread review. "More than anything else, Metroid Dread feels like going back to a place of comfort after a long time away," I wrote. "Though the gameplay is refined and new features have been added to the mix, Dread sticks closely to the formula of its predecessors. In the end, for longtime fans like myself, that's probably for the best. There's nothing to dread here. We're home again."

Metroid Dread standard edition

Metroid Dread's standard edition costs $60 and is widely available at major retailers and on the Switch eShop.

Metroid Dread Special Edition

Metroid Dread's Special Edition costs $90 and comes with a steelbook case, art book, and five art cards celebrating each of the 2D Metroid games. We've seen it available at multiple retailers today, including Best Buy, GameStop, and the Nintendo Store. It is selling out quickly, though, but make sure to check the links below.

Metroid Dread Samus and EMMI Amiibo

We've also seen the two-pack of Amiibo figures featuring Samus and EMMI available at multiple retailers today. Like the Special Edition, the two-pack has been selling out quickly, but make sure to check the links below throughout the day.
