Production continues on Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant, which will bridge the gap between his recent hit Prometheus and the 1979 classic Alien. The film's official Facebook page has now released a first look at star Katherine Waterston, who plays the character of Daniels. Check it out below:

Although this is one of the first official images from the production, a few on-set pictures have leaked over the past couple of months. Most recently, this striking shot of what looks like the aftermath of an alien massacre was revealed by the Daily Mail, while last month video footage of a spectacular controlled explosion was posted online. The first official image was the insignia for the spaceship of the title.

In a recent interview for Inquirer, co-star Michael Fassbender gave fans a hint of what they could expect from the latest movie in the long-running sci-fi series. "There are going to be great sets and aliens coming out of people," he said. “The sets are fantastic. Again, the most impressive sets I've seen since Prometheus, which was the original setting.

"It's a fantastic mixture of high-end technology and primitive elements. The way that I can explain it is the same way that Ridley did Blade Runner."

Alien: Covenant was originally announced as a direct sequel to Prometheus, but has subsequently gone through a couple of name changes to align it closer to the Alien series. It hits cinemas on August 4, 2017.
