Fallout 4's canine companion Dogmeat--who cannot die in the upcoming RPG--is based on lead level designer Joel Burgess' real-world German Shepherd, River, Bethesda announced today. The publisher also released a nice little video that shows River in-studio doing performance and audio capture (and catching frisbees). Bethesda says he's a frequent visitor to the company's offices.

Take a look at the video below, and keep reading for more on Dogmeat.

Dogmeat is one of about a dozen Fallout 4 companions. Others include Mister Handy, Piper, and Preston Garvey. You can learn more about Dogmeat and the game's companions in the video below, which is from E3, but only published just today. It features insight directly from Fallout 4 game director Todd Howard.

In other news about Fallout 4, Bethesda has announced post-launch plans for it, including regular free updates, paid DLC, mods, and more. In addition, Fallout 3's Three Dog voice actor has confirmed he won't be back for Fallout 4. The actor, Erik Todd Dellums, claims he was never even asked to audition.

The Fallout 4 release date is set for November 10 across PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
