Max Payne 3 $30 DLC pass detailed

Rockstar Games offering a discount for those who buy all its upcoming shooter's new maps, modes, and other content months in advance.

Gamers have been able to preorder Max Payne 3 at retailers for months, but now they can preorder the game's downloadable content as well. Rockstar Games today announced its Rockstar Pass plan for Max Payne 3, which will let players pre-purchase seven add-on packs for the shooter, which launches later this month.

Max Payne 3 DLC is locked and loaded.
Max Payne 3 DLC is locked and loaded.

Rockstar Pass preorders for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will be available through GameStop and Best Buy beginning today, with Sony also selling the PS3 edition through its PlayStation Network storefront. The pass will sell for $30 (2,400 Microsoft points), which Rockstar describes as more than a 35 percent discount over purchasing all the add-on packs separately (which puts the final a la carte price of the DLC at more than $46). The Rockstar Pass will also be available on the PC for $30.

The first Max Payne 3 DLC will be the Local Justice Map Pack, which includes three maps for four multiplayer modes (Gang Wars, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Payne Killer), multiplayer challenges, and avatar items. That content hits in June.

Max Payne 3 development has been handled by Rockstar Games' Vancouver studio, which took over from Finnish developer Remedy (Alan Wake). The game will incorporate multiplayer into the series for the first time, and the publisher has said it will feature "traditional" multiplayer game modes with full-featured support for character progression, clans, and loadout options.

Max Payne 3 will arrive for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on May 15 in North America, with a European premiere scheduled for May 18. A PC version of the game will follow in North America on May 29 and in Europe on June 1. The full DLC schedule for the Rockstar Pass follows below.

June 2012
Local Justice Map Pack

Summer 2012
Disorganized Crime Map Pack
Deathmatch Made in Heaven Mode Pack
Hostage Negotiation Map Pack
New York Minute Co-Op Pack

Fall 2012
Painful Memories Map Pack
Trickle Down Economics Map Pack

[CORRECTION]: This article originally stated that the Local Justice map pack contained three maps and three multiplayer modes. It actually contains three maps for use in the game's four multiplayer modes. We regret the error.

Apart from the $30 season pass, I only see about $15 worth of buyable content in the Max Payne 3 addons section of the PSN Store. So what is still missing?

always buy DLC AFTER it gets reviewed. giantbomb will review all this DLC and you will get quick looks at it. Why spend $30 on what could be 2/3 crap? Pre-purchasing DLC is a new low for the gaming industry. Look how horrible Saints Row the 3rd's DLC was.

@jazilla Or you could do the world of gaming a favour and DON'T BUY ANY DLC.

DLC is one of the major things that is wrong with gaming. Do not feed the beast.

@Dirty_Window So tell me then, why is getting more things to do in a game a bad thing? I can understand DLC that hardly does a damn thing (like a lot of the things in Saints Row the Third) but didn't you ever play the GTA IV DLC? It added whole new stories, new features, more multiplayer options, etc. Please do tell me how all DLC is horrid and should not be purchased, because if anything we should support good DLC and not support the sort of s&*t that Capcom does with content locked on the disc. If it's legitimate DLC, that isn't just some color pallet swap for 5.00$ than support it so that you can support the developer.

P.S. No one is MAKING YOU but it, so quit complaining.

@Dirty_Window According to your response, we are on the same page here. We both agree that DLC can be a complete and utter ripoff, and I would never spend money on something so trivial. But you have now agreed with me by saying that there is good DLC out there. I know that it is used a lot to rip off customers and drain money from their customers, hell online passes are the worst thing that has ever come to gaming. But I don't know about you, I have had more fun with DLC like The Ballad of Gay Tony than I did with GTA IV on it's own. So what it comes down to, is only pay for what you should get, if something should be free, don't pay for it, but if something worth 15.00$ is being sold for 15.00$ I fail to see the issue.

@misterbig97 9/10ths of DLC is trash. 2 or 3 maps here. A skin there. For what $15? How few and far between are EXPANSIONS like the GTV Ballard and Lost etc? They are the exception rather than the rule.

If no one purchased the shitty map pack with but people purchased the expansions, then the devs would see a correlation and produce DECENT DLC. However, it's people like you that buy it and say "YEA I ALWAYS WANTED ZANGIEF IS YELLOW PANTS - HAVE MY $15"

DLC by its very nature is evil. It rewards devs for minimal effort. Look at Just cause's DLC... $5 for.... A TRUCK. With a gun! Most of these were probably banged out in the game development but then cut so they had DLC items.

And no, no-one is making me buy the DLC - You completely missed the point, *golfclap*

DLC is always a good thing if you dont want it you dont have to buy itbut it gives things to games that are goodlike giving new stuff for single player so you have more of a game to playsure when they release dlc information before the game is released (marvel vs capcom revealed 2 characters i think a month before the game was released) but to be honest i only buy the dlc which is worth

Oh I hate DLCs so much... I wish people would stop buying them. I'm just waiting for some kind of a blunder. Capcom helped a bit with a DLC locked in the disc with the game, but it wasn't enough to make a dent. Only a Blizzard sized blunder would do.

@picho86 So what you are saying is that you don't want more things for games you like? That's like saying that you hate games in general. The only DLC I hate is the kind that Capcom is giving us, because that we should already have. Proper DLC should be made after the games has been released for at least a month, no sooner or there is no excuse for it not to be included with the retail copy.

Stop crying about DLC; every company is out to make $ (unless it's non-profit) so deal with it. The choice is yours buy it or don't, but this business model has been in use for the last couple of years, but you guys act surprised by it every time. lol

Here's my thinking: considering the insanely high quality of DLC that Rockstar has proven to be capable of in the past, I'm actually inclined to think this may be worth it.

No idea if I'm going for this, I'm not buying Max Payne 3 for the multiplayer but if it's not too shabby I might revisit the idea. That's assuming multiplayer doesn't collapse a month down the line.

To be honest man, I'm shocked. Rockstar is a great company that gives out free DLC just to support their games (Like Red Dead Redemption). Like you I feel as though map packs won't be worth it. However, if the multiplayer is really fun I too may consider buying the pass. I really hope they don't continue on down this DLC-milking path though.

It's a bit ridiculous to have seven dlc packs named and ready to go within the first like five months of release. At least you will be able to save about fifteen bucks if you buy it all together, even though the whole thing is to get as much money as possible.

People sit here and complain but they do not do anything about it. You wonder what can you do? Stop buying this garbage developers call games when all they are is half of a game for 60.00 and the other half DLC for 20-30.00 more. But I might as well talk to a tree because this game and DLC will sell and half of you will buy it after complaining about it. For map packs? Really...

Average US sales tax is 9.6%. So Buying the FULL game (with all the DLC) will be just under $100. If you don't take the deal now, the cost of the FULL game will be over $100. I'll pass. No way in heck I'm paying that much to play the FULL game.

This is the same thing happen to Bioware. If they have time to make day one DLC, you have to ask why can't they use the time that they put to make that day one DLC into making a decent ending.

I don't have problems buying a 30 dollar DLC. Yet don't make me preorder it as if you couldn't have just included it in the actual game. DLC is downloadable content and the charges for it are supposed to cover the continued attention and support a developers staff gives to a game. NOT the support given to a game pre-release, that's what the 60 bucks I'm going to pay for the game is for.And they wonder why people steal games.

The games industry some how think they are special , and people should not be able to buy 2nd hands games, the rumour has it that the the new gen Xbox & PSN will have features to lock games to the console , to kill 2nd hand sales.

They've got quite a hide to do this as 2nd hd sales are quite the norm in cars , books cd's,dvd's and the other millions of bits a peices on sale on ebay !!!

How goes the other stooges ??

As long as people will continue buying those type of games ( with $$$ DLCs even before release date), the more the companies is gonna rip us (gamers) apart. The moment gamers will turn their back on them (really what will happen if for a year you wont play a new game? the end of the world?), they will stop this agressive money hunger strategy

Gah...my comments bit the dust. I'll just reiterate that I'm not really interested in 'pre-purchasing' multiplayer map packs at all.

Why are Rockstar pushing this aspect of the game now? Don't they have faith in the value of their core product? If they're focusing on monetizing the MP part of the game, what does this say about the longevity and replay value of the single player campaign? I find this move worrying.
