Marvel Boss Responds To Rumors About Chris Evans Coming Back As Captain America

Marvel's top boss, Kevin Feige, has responded to the rumors that Chris Evans will return to play Steve Rogers/Captain America once again. He did not personally shoot down the rumor, but he pointed to Evans' own statement that it was "news to me" that the actor would come back. Still, from the sound of it, fans should not get their hopes up to see Evans back as Captain America.

"I rarely answer 'no' to anything anymore because things are always surprising me with what happens, but that rumor, I think, was dispelled rather quickly by the man himself," Feige told EW.

Deadline broke the news in January that Evans would return to play Captain America again, not in a new film of his own but instead in a smaller role not unlike Robert Downey Jr. in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Marvel has never flatly denied the report, and that remains the case. The report also never said that Evans had made a deal to return, only that it was a possibility.

Anthony Mackie, who plays Sam Wilson/Falcon and is now wielding Captain America's shield in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, told EW that he has "no idea" if Evans will come back or not. Mackie was enjoying some leisure time and was fishing when he saw the report. "When I came back in to get some shrimp, the dude at the dock was like, 'Hey, man! Did you see this s---?!'" Mackie said.

Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, said to EW, "Anything is possible" in regards to Evans' future as Captain America.

"I feel like you can't ever think of the words 'Captain America' without thinking about Chris Evans. He's done such an amazing job with it, and I feel like he's always going to have this presence," Stan said.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premieres this Friday, March 19, on Disney+. We recently learned that the show will dig into Sam and Bucky's personal lives.
