Marvel Boss Confirms Spider-Man For Avengers 4, Talks R-Rated Movies

Spider-Man will be in the next two Avengers movies, it's been confirmed. He'll appear in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War and the fourth movie in the series, which is due out in 2019.

Marvel boss Kevin Feige confirmed this in an interview attended by The Hollywood Reporter (via IGN). Marvel's deal with Sony for the Spider-Man movie rights also covers this year's Spider-Man: Homecoming and a sequel to that movie, due out in 2019.

"That's as far as it goes for now," Feige said, leaving open the possibility of the deal going further.

Tom Holland made his debut as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, though only in a small role. We'll see a lot more of him in this summer's Homecoming--watch a breakdown of the new trailer above.

Sony itself is making Spider-Man spinoffs themed around Venom and Silver Sable/Black Cat, but Marvel is not a partner for those films. Feige said Marvel has a "very particular plan about Spidey himself when asked why Marvel isn't working with Sony on the spinoffs. He didn't talk about what those plans might be.

Spider-Man: Homecoming premieres on July 7 and also stars Robert Downey Jr., Marisa Tomei, and Donald Glover. For lots more on the new trailer, check out GameSpot's in-depth video breakdown here.

Also during the interview, Feige said you should not expect to see Marvel make an R-rated movie anytime soon. It might have worked for Deadpool and Logan, but they were unique in that Deadpool breaks the fourth wall and Logan has a sense of closure for Wolverine.

"My takeaway from both of those films is not the R rating; it's the risk they took, the chances they took, the creative boundaries that they pushed," Feige said of their success. "That should be the takeaway for everyone."
