Marc Ecko tailors game company

Fashion designer, part-time game designer announces Marc Ecko Entertainment; game division will "try brand new things."

"Don't call it a comeback! I been here for years!"

When Atari announced that it was partnering with fashion mogul Marc Ecko for a game, many scratched their heads. The game, titled Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure, had gamers climbing through a fictional metropolis plastering landmarks with graffiti art.

The paint may be peeling from Getting Up, but that doesn't mean that Ecko is putting the controller down forever in favor of needle and thread. On the one-year anniversary of Getting Up's release, Ecko today announced the formation of Mark Ecko Entertainment, a gaming division of the cultural icon's growing empire.

"Our goal is to expand creativity in videogames--we want to try brand new things," said Ecko, who will serve as chief creative officer of the new company. "There are so many great ideas out there that either aren't getting the attention they need or are being completely ignored. We will work with the visionaries of the medium and get these inventive titles in the hands of gamers."

Mike Lynch, formerly of Marc Ecko Enterprises, will serve as president of the game company. Marc Fernandez, formerly of Take-Two Interactive, will be vice president of creative, and Shawn Rosen will fill the duty of executive producer.

No projects have been announced, but Marc Ecko Entertainment will be meeting with developers at GDC 2007, which takes place next month in San Francisco.

Contents Under Pressure was one of the most underrated games I've ever played. Ironic how the one's who complain about him being rich are the same who knock on his clothing line. People need to quit hating on him and concentrate on getting their $6.50 an hour at Wal Mart.

"Brand new things" like selling hip-hop clothes for ten times of what they're worth. The guy is wearing a backwards hat in the picture, I wore those 15 years ago... how is that brand new? Music hasn't even changed in the last half decade.

"Try brand new things" he says, well how about your clothing line? It's been the same style for about.. oh say.. 10 years and going? I haven't played the game myself so I really can't say if it rocks or blows, but this guy really is too much into himself, reminds me of LL Cool J. But anyhoo, on with the show.

It was bad enough having to buy some of his "fashion line" in Test Drive Unlimited. I swear that I will never play a video game that he had a hand in developing. Stick to your crappy clothes and stay out of our games.

Cheddar said it. I was hoping it'd end with that last pieceo f popular tripe, but unfortunately... it seems we'll have to put up with more critic-hyped crapula. Ecko = Ego I don't even like his fashion line. Someone needs to pop his ego, badly.

How can a person like Mark Ecko who said he didn't care about gamers and what they think, calling us "pissy" simply because no one liked his stupid vandalism game? Easy, he only cares about the money.

I think I just heard the sounds of millions of gamers crying out in agony - then suddenly silenced... I mean, blech. Just blech. We don't need fashion designers with an over-inflated sense of importance trying to make video games.

I love it when rich people think because they have an interest they should try to do it. He should stick to what he does..making clothes. His last game flopped. Just Like Madonna writing a childrens book and every singer thinking their an actor or actress. I love the quote he makes stating he wants to "do something brand new". Wow how insightful. Isn't that what every game company tries to do?

I really liked Contents Under Pressure. the only thing I found a bit different was the story, but alot of games have cheesy stories that are just a bit insane. I expect some good from his new game(s)

Getting Up blind-sided me, and from what I can tell, a lot of other people as well. I was just as sceptical of it as most people were, but when I put it in the machine, I was pleasantly surprised. I think the real reason it hasn't made greatest hits is because of the Atari association. If Ubisoft or some other big publisher picked it up, I would almost guarantee that it would have done better. *** Note to fellow gamers: If you haven't played Getting Up, do yourself a favor and give it a chance. It's honestly a very good time.

although...... Contents under Pressure was an okay game. I do hope the best for them. I do think the game just felt dull compared to the fun and inspiration behind Jet Set Radio. Although speaking as an artist, any video game with Shepher Farrley is just amazing. So who knows, Marc Ecko can make something really happen with his games....... just try not to be so grundgy

"Have you even played getting up under pressure smashbroslegend? Instead of calling a successful designer of both clothes and now video games an idiot, how about you go read a little bit, play the game, and come back with some valid evidence to an opinion before you go bashing people with a considerably better track record than you" I've played the game, and it's garbage. Ecko's games and clothes are for suburban white kids pretending they're black. A free-roaming games where you tag things? No thanks.
