Magic: The Gathering's Lord Of The Rings: Tales Of Middle-Earth Expansion First Details Revealed
Magic will be gathering in Middle-earth this summer.
Hot off the heels of MagicCon Philadelphia, Wizards Of The Coast has announced the first details for Lord Of The Rings: Tales Of Middle-earth, a brand-new expansion set featuring characters, locations, and events from J.R.R. Tolkien's massive saga.
The set will launch first on June 23 with Draft, Set, Collector, and Jumpstart booster packs, four preconstructed Commander format decks, a Starter Kit, a Bundle and Gift Bundle, Scene Boxes, and Secret Lair drops. A second release is planned November 3 for the holiday season, with more details to be announced at a later date.
Tales Of Middle-earth is the first full expansion under Magic's Universes Beyond label, which previously introduced The Walking Dead, Street Fighter, Godzilla, and more to the tabletop card game via Secret Lair drops. The schedule for the set's release is as follows:
- First Look: March 14
- Debut: May 30
- Prerelease: June 16
- MTG Arena Release: June 20
- Tabletop Release: June 23
- Holiday Release: November 3
Also revealed today was Commander Legends, a full set centered around the 100-card Commander format. This set will launch with four pre-constructed decks containing cards from across Magic's 30-year history, along with Draft, Set, and Collectors booster packs. Commander Legends launches August 4, with the first look set for May 16 and in-store prereleases planned for July 28-30.
Both of these will follow the next Magic: The Gathering Set, March Of The Machines, which is due to launch April 21.
