Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for Madame Web, its upcoming Spider-Man spin-off movie starring Dakota Johnson. The Fifty Shades of Grey star plays Cassandra Webb in the origin story for the Marvel hero.

The movie is described as a "suspense-driven thriller." Webb is a paramedic in Manhattan who has the power of clairvoyance. "Forced to confront revelations about her past, she forges a relationship with three young women destined for powerful futures...if they can all survive a deadly present," reads a line from the movie's description. Here's the trailer:

In addition to Johnson, Madame Web stars Sydney Sweeney, Emma Roberts, Isabela Merced, and Celeste O'Connor in main roles, along with Adam Scott.

Madame Web is directed by SJ Clarkson, who is known for her work directing episodes of Succession and Jessica Jones. She also directed the Game of Thrones spin-off pilot that HBO passed on.

Madame Web is produced as a collaboration between Sony Pictures, which owns the rights to Spider-Man characters, and Marvel. For more, check out the video above in which Johnson and Clarkson discuss Madame Web and what makes the character so interesting.
