Macgruber Lives: Peacock Streaming Services Orders SNL Sketch Adaptation To Series

Get the celery stalks in your butt for the series based on the movie based on the Saturday Night Live sketch.

Peacock is moving forward with original programming. The MacGruber show was in development back in January, and now, Peacock has picked it up for series.

The news comes out of the CTAM Summer Press Tour--which is replacing this season's TCAs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Peacock has ordered eight half-hour episodes of the new series, which will star Will Forte. Forte will write and executive produce, and he's joined by John Solomon and Jorma Taccone, and Taccone will direct--he also directed the 2010 film.

The series already seems like it will be just as silly and ridiculous as the 2010 feature film, as the official synopsis for the show is pretty out there. "After rotting in prison for over a decade, America's ultimate hero and uber patriot MacGruber (Will Forte) is finally released. His mission: to take down a mysterious villain from his past--Brigadier Commander Enos Queeth. With the entire world in the crosshairs, MacGruber must race against time to defeat the forces of evil--only to find that evil... may be lurking within."

The MacGruber character originated as a sketch on NBC's Saturday Night Live. Forte played the character, which was a spoof on the '80s action TV series MacGuyver. MacGruber is a special operative that can take ordinary materials and make it into something that can get him out of a sticky situation. However, like mentioned above, sometimes these items can be as simple as sticking a celery stalk between your butt cheeks to create a distraction.
