To promote their new Lord of the Rings podcast, series stars Dominic Monaghan (Merry) and Billy Boyd (Pippin) took part in a Reddit AMA where they teased more of what to expect from their new show and spilled some interesting anecdotes from the films.

Someone asked if they wished the Scouring of the Shire was included in the movies, and Boyd said "yes." He added, perhaps jokingly (or maybe not?) that he and Monaghan will write out this scene and act it out on the new podcast, which is called Friendship Onion.

Elaborating further on this, Boyd said he understands why this scene didn't make it into the movie. "I would have loved The Scouring of the Shire but totally understand why it's not there. People were already complaining the film had too many endings! ( but I would have loved one more)," he said.

Someone else asked about another omission from The Lord of the Rings: Tom Bombadil. They asked who Monaghan and Boyd would have wanted to play the character, and they responded with Mark Rylance, the Oscar-winning Bridge of Spies actor.

As for Friendship Onion, Boyd said the show will mainly consist of himself and Monaghan talking about "whatever is going on in our lives, food, music, TV, film, life..." He added that the hope is to have fans get involved in some capacity. Boyd also teased that he hopes there can be special guests, too, like David Wenham (who played Faramir) and Miranda Otto (who played Eowyn).

The subject of Amazon's new Lord of the Rings series also came up, and Boyd said he is "absolutely" excited to watch it, noting that he "can't wait" for it to debut.

Also in the AMA, Boyd shared a story about what was his most challenging day on set filming The Lord of the Rings. He said it was the scene outside the gates of Moria, and it was especially difficult because of how cold and rainy it was.

"For me, outside the gates of Moria, freezing night, cold and wet and the rain got into our hobbit feet and it was miserable.....thought we would have to stop and take off the feet, but we managed to get it done, a hot foot bath never felt so good," he said.

The actor also revealed that "quite a lot" of the Lord of the Rings cast learned to surf while they were staying in New Zealand to make the movies. Boyd revealed that he broke his pinky surfing and you can see in the Moria scene that he's hiding his hand. "I broke my pinky doing that, in Moria you can see Im hiding my right hand a lot under the cloak," he said.

Friendship Onion premieres on May 18 everywhere you get podcasts.
