Local Ford Dealership Allegedly Steals Video Game Art for Ad

The Firewatch art was used in an email sent to potential Ford customers

In a bizarre case, it appears that a local Massachusetts Ford dealership has used art from this year's Firewatch. The art in question is believed to have been taken from developer Campo Santo's website.

The alleged copyright infringement was first brought to our attention by a tweet from Panic Inc, which helped produce Firewatch. The email was forwarded to the producer by GitHub platform engineering manager Kyle Daigle. Game Informer contacted the Quincy Quirk Ford dealership and spoke to Sean Western, who works in the advertising department.

Western admitted to Game Informer that the email flyer shown above was sent to potential customers, but he said that he did not recognize the original Firewatch artwork. Western said that the dealership does not vet advertisements for copyright or clearance. He later said that the art was taken from a wallpaper site that could host stolen artwork.

Campo Santo co-founder Sean Vanaman has commented on the story throughout the day. He started with a humorous tweet, but later said that "it's really a non-story."

"[W]e've had a good laugh over a crappy car dealership flier but it's really a non-story," Vanaman tweeted. "[O]lly and his contemporaries get yoinked 100x a day."

We've contacted both Quirk Ford Quincy and Campo Santo for further comment and will update this story as we hear back.
