Lips sequel belts out Coldplay, MC Hammer
Microsoft's motion-sensing-mic-equipped karaoke game gets Number One Hits edition this October.
A good deal of speculation surrounded Microsoft's 2008 Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference, fueled primarily by a massive information leak by market-research firm Intellisponse. Among talk of an all-new Xbox Live with a Mii-like avatar system (later revealed to be the New Xbox Experience), the leak dropped first word on Lips, a karaoke rhythm game with an innovative microphone.
This year, Microsoft isn't waiting until its E3 press conference to announce the latest installment in the Lips franchise. The company said today that Lips: Number One Hits will be available for the Xbox 360 in October. As with the first game, Number One Hits integrates with a wireless, motion-sensing microphone that synchs up with the various songs in the game to create unique light displays.
Microsoft did not delve into new features that would be included with Lips: Number One Hits, but the publisher did reveal the game's first tunes. Songs thus far announced for Number One Hits are: Coldplay's "Viva la Vida," Rihanna's "Disturbia," MC Hammer's "U Can't Touch This," Timbaland featuring OneRepublic's "Apologize," Culture Club's "Karma Chameleon," Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," Roy Orbison's "Oh, Pretty Woman," and Tokio Hotel's "Ready, Set, Go!"
Microsoft did not reveal how many songs would be available as part of the final package, though the publisher did note that new songs will be added for the game on a weekly basis. The original game contained 40 songs, came bundled with two mics, and retailed for $69.99.
