Valve keeps players thinking with Portals with its popular first-person puzzle franchise, but soon fans may be able to start building with them--and some well-placed Lego bricks. The fan-started campaign for an official Lego Portal set through the toy maker's Cuusoo Kickstarter-esque label has reached the required 10,000 supporters, and is now headed to Lego adjudicators for official consideration.

Those interested in Chell minifigures and brick-based Portal guns may want to temper their enthusiasm, as a number of hurdles remain before the idea can become a reality. Not only would the set need to be approved by Lego officials, but Valve--which owns the Portal property--would need to sign off on the endeavor.

As of press time, Valve had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.

The Portal Lego sets were designed by four self-proclaimed "Lego enthusiasts" known as Team Jigsaw. The team formed originally in 2011 to compete in a month-long Lego-sanctioned My Own Creation (MOC) event, where they finished in third place of 21 teams. The group also competed in the 2012 event, and of 39 squads, finished in second place.

If approved and manufactured, a Lego Portal set would follow Minecraft in receiving the Danish brick treatment. The official 480-piece Lego Minecraft Microworld set is currently available through Lego's webstore for $35. That project was born through the Lego Cuusoo idea incubator.
