Divinity fans haven't been forgotten, even with Larian focused on the upcoming release of Baldur's Gate 3. The developer has confirmed it will return to the franchise that started in 2002 and last saw a new entry with the critically acclaimed Original Sin 2 in 2017.

Speaking with IGN, Larian CEO Swen Vincke stated that the studio will certainly return to Divinity in the future. "It's [Divinity: Original Sin] our own universe we built, so we're definitely gonna get back there at some point. We will get back there at some point," Vincke said.

"We'll first finish this one [Baldur's Gate 3] now, and then take a break, because we will need to refresh ourselves creatively also. You're seeing 400 developers putting their heart and souls into this."

For those unfamiliar, the Baldur's Gate series is part of Dungeons & Dragons, owned by Wizards of the Coast. The first two mainline entries in the RPG franchise were developed by BioWare over two decades ago. This is Larian's first time working with the beloved property, utilizing the 5e ruleset and turn-based combat.

Judging from what Larian has stated about the upcoming game, it seems like a massive undertaking for the studio. For example, Baldur's Gate 3's ending has a mind-boggling 17,000 variations. Additionally, a "standard" playthrough of the game could take up to 100 hours. What's also turned heads is the fact Baldur's Gate 3 will let you romance a grizzly bear... well, a person in grizzly bear form.

Baldur's Gate 3 will release August 3 on PC, with the PS5 version delayed to September 6. There is no window currently for the game to come to Xbox Series X|S because of development issues making split-screen work on Xbox Series S.
