Konami Officially Confirms North American DDR

Dance Dance Revolution to be significantly tweaked before it crosses the Pacific. Details inside.

Comments

Konami has confirmed our reports earlier this week by announcing that Dance Dance Revolution will indeed be coming to North America. The company has confirmed that the new US PlayStation version will use the popular dancing pad that made the game such a smash in Japanese arcades. There will be 30 songs, almost twice the number in the Japanese version, including hip-hop, techno, drum 'n' bass, and trance styles.

Konami is also planning to license music from several of today's current chart toppers for the game - though there's been no word on the exact songs or artists to be included. Additionally, the PlayStation version can accommodate two dance pads for competitive or cooperative dancing, and a special workout mode (first seen in the Japanese version of DDR 3rd Mix) will keep track of how many calories the player has burned during a session of DDR.

Although there's no official release date, GameSpot expects Dance Dance Revolution and the Konami gamepad to arrive in the US in January 2001. We'll let you know what artists and songs are going to be included as soon as the information becomes available.
