Koei Indirectly Battles Software Pirating
Koei and Acer team up to ingeniously combat the rampant video game software pirating in Taiwan.
The Nikkei Industrial Daily reports that Japanese video game company, Koei, has formed a strategic partnership with Acer's game unit, AcerTWP, to create a localized publishing arm in Taiwan. The move comes primarily as a response to the rampant pirating of game software in the Taiwanese gaming market. As part of the agreement, Koei and AcerTWP will re-release games in the area with localized dubbing. Both companies feel that meeting those specific needs will reduce the demand for illegal software.
Koei will own 80 percent of this new publishing and distribution venture, while AcerTWP will retain 20 percent. The first game to be released under this agreement will be Koei's strategy simulation game Kessen.
