Jurassic World: Dominion Resumes Production After COVID Cases

Jurassic World: Dominion has apparently resumed production after pausing about two weeks ago due to positive COVID tests for multiple people involved. The news came via filmmaker Colin Trevorrow's Twitter, who tweeted a succinct caption, "Back," to accompany an image of series veterans Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neill.

Amblin, the production company behind the film, elaborated on the tweet with a confirmation that the "cast and crew are back to work, with the spirit of a legend watching over them while they create together." That "spirit" refers to Richard Attenborough, a prolific actor and filmmaker who was the president of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts--and also starred in 1993's Jurassic Park and its 1997 sequel, The Lost World--in the shot Trevorrow tweeted, the actors are standing in front of a sound stage named after him.

Dominion will be the third movie in the Jurassic World franchise, following 2018's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Dominion is expected to close out the trilogy kicked off by 2015's Jurassic World. In addition to earlier franchise stars Dern, Goldblum, and Neill, the cast also includes relative series newcomers Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard.

When production on Dominion shut down earlier this month, The Hollywood Reporter indicated that the film had "about three weeks left on production." That might lead one to expect the film will have smooth sailing to wrap before the end of the year, but Dominion has (like most movies in 2020) experienced delays, injuries, and other medical issues. Despite the film's UK set spending over $5 million on making it safe during COVID-19, per this most recent delay, it doesn't change the reality that the pandemic is still very much continuing. Here's hoping there are no other delays.
