Jurassic World 2 Director Teases Start Of Production With New Image

The massive success of 2015's Jurassic World showed that there was still huge interest in the long-running rampaging dinosaur franchise. Jurassic World 2 is about to start shooting, and director JA Bayona (Orphan) has tweeted a first image from the production. Check it out below:

Bayona accompanied the picture with the words "Getting ready for the journey." The movie stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard once more, with Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow producing and co-writing. The movie is set to hit theaters on June 22, 2018.

In an interview last October, Trevorrow stated that the film would be more terrifying than its predecessor and would tap into Bayona's experience in the horror genre. "It will be more suspenseful and scary," he said. "It's just the way it's designed; it's the way the story plays out. I knew I wanted Bayona to direct it long before anyone ever heard that was a possibility, so the whole thing was just built around his skill set."

Trevorrow went on to state that the filmmakers are not necessarily going "bigger" when it comes to the size of the dinosaurs and the action. "I don't think that bigger, better dinosaurs or bigger, more epic-in-scope action sequences are what people are necessarily looking for from this franchise and what they love about it," he said.

Jurassic World currently stands as the fourth biggest movie of all time, bringing in $1.6 billion at the global box office. It was the first new entry in the series since 2001's Jurassic Park III. The franchise is based on Michael Crichton's 1990 novel.
