Julia Garner Cast As Silver Surfer In The Fantastic Four

The MCU's Silver Surfer will be portrayed by Ozark's Julia Garner in The Fantastic Four.

Marvel's upcoming Fantastic Four reboot has added its first cast member since the title characters were cast in February. Deadline is reporting that Julia Garner will play Silver Surfer in The Fantastic Four. The character is traditionally portrayed as a man, Norrin Radd, who offered to become the herald of Galactus if the world-devourer spared his home world, Zenn-La. In the MCU, Norrin's lover, Shalla-Bal, will be the one who struck that bargain before being transformed into Silver Surfer.

Doug Jones previously played Silver Surfer, who was voiced by Laurence Fishburne in 2007's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Since the Surfer is in The Fantastic Four, that's the strongest indication yet that Galactus will also appear, potentially as the primary villain. Silver Surfer and Galactus were both created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby during their legendary run on the Fantastic Four comic book series. Silver Surfer quickly became a breakout character and headlined numerous comic book series since his first appearance in 1966.

Garner previous had a major role on Netflix's Ozark. Her other credits include The Americans, Maniac, Dirty John, Inventing Anna, Grandma, and The Assistant.

Pedro Pascal will headline the film as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, alongside Vanessa Kirby as Susan Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/Thing. Matt Shakman is directing The Fantastic Four, which will hit theaters on July 25, 2025.
