Jim Carrey Might Retire From Acting -- "I Have Enough, I've Done Enough"

Prolific actor Jim Carrey has said he might retire. Speaking to Access Hollywood, the 60-year-old said he is "fairly serious" about retiring after his appearance as Dr. Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which premieres on April 8. Carrey said he might be drawn back to make another film if the script is good enough, but for now, he's pretty sure he's done acting for the time being.

"Well, I'm retiring. Yeah, probably. I'm being fairly serious," he said (via Variety). "It depends. If the angels bring some sort of script that's written in gold ink that says to me that it's going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I'm taking a break."

Carrey went on to say that he enjoys his "quiet life," including his canvas painting hobby and his spiritual life. The actor also pointed out that he doesn't strictly need to keep acting.

"And I feel like--and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists--I have enough. I've done enough. I am enough," he said.

Carrey has taken breaks from acting before. In fact, his appearance in 2020's Sonic the Hedgehog was the actor's first big part in a studio film since Dumb and Dumber To in 2014.

Carrey's IMDB page lists no further upcoming projects for film or TV. A third Sonic the Hedgehog film is in the works already, but given Carrey's comments, it seems he may not be involved with it.

Carrey is known for comedies and dramas like Ace Ventura, The Mask, The Cable Guy, Bruce Almighty, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. In 2020, he portrayed Joe Biden on SNL.
