Interplay Rolls Out Film Studio
Just when games are getting more and more like movies, Interplay blurs the lines even more.
Interplay announced today that it has appointed Tom Reed, film industry vet who worked with Brian Grazer and Ron Howard at Imagine Entertainment, as president of Interplay Films - the company's independent movie and TV division.
Reed will work on moving Interplay's current titles over to film and TV licenses, but also bringing nongame works and developing those into media properties.
"Computer games have been evolving at an incredible pace. The days of Pac-Man and Space Invaders are ancient history. They're incredibly sophisticated now, particularly the RPG (role-playing games) and strategy games that are like extended virtual movies," Reed said in a statement. "As these games have matured, the market has demanded increasingly complex story content, and this is where the lines between computer games and movies are blurring."
