Codemasters has announced that IndyCar Series, a game based on the IndyCar racing league, has gone gold. In the game, players will have to use a variety of driving techniques (such as drafting, switching fuel settings, and defending positions) in order to get the checkered flag. The game features quick race and full Indy season options, as well as an Indianapolis 500 mode, where players can compete for the ultimate prize in IndyCar racing.

"We're excited to release our IndyCar Series game in time for the world-famous Indy 500," said Steve Lux, Codemasters' senior vice president of marketing in the US. "Now racing fans and gamers alike will be able to re-create the adrenaline-pumping experience of the 'greatest spectacle in racing,' without ever leaving their living room."

IndyCar Series will ship first for the PlayStation 2 on May 20. The Xbox and PC versions of the game will follow shortly thereafter.
