Infogrames North America today announced that it would release a sequel to the PC space-simulation game Independence War, called Independence War 2: The Edge of Chaos to the Sega Dreamcast. The game, which is being developed by Particle Systems, puts you at the helm of a small capital ship where you issue orders to your crew and manage the ship's various systems.

Independence War 2 has an all-new cast of characters, with you playing as Cal Johnston, the rebellious captain of a small starship manned by escaped prisoners. Unlike in the original game, this time you'll commandeer more than one ship over the course of the game and use your underworld connections to score new equipment and weapons, which you'll use to retrofit your craft.

Independence War 2: The Edge of Chaos for the Sega Dreamcast is scheduled for a winter release in North America.
