How Dune 2 Stacked Up In Its Second Weekend In Theaters

The spice, nay money keeps flowing for Dune: Part Two. The sequel from director Denis Villeneuve reportedly earned $46 million at the domestic box office over the weekend and now stands at an estimated $376.5 million worldwide.

While that's a strong second-weekend showing, The Hollywood Reporter notes that Kung Fu Panda 4 took the top spot in North America by raking in $58.3 million. It's the best opening for the franchise since the original film in 2008 (which made $62 million).

Back to Arrakis, Dune: Part Two doubled 2021's Dune during the sequel's opening weekend. Though keep in mind that the first film debuted during the COVID-19 pandemic and simultaneously released on what was then called HBO Max. That said, Dune: Part Two should easily surpass the global haul of Dune, which brought in roughly $430 million. As stated above, Dune: Part Two is already around $376.5 million worldwide after just 10 days of availability.

One dying man got to see Dune: Part Two before the movie premiered March 1. Canada's Global News says that an individual on end-of-life care was able to watch the sequel in January thanks to Villeneuve's team. The man died a few days after seeing it.
