The Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, will release its first trailer on Saturday, as announced on the official X (formerly known as Twitter) accounts for both shows. Meanwhile, fans can preview Olivia Cooke's Alicent Hightower and Emma D'Arcy's Rhaenyra Targaryen in recently unveiled character posters, offering a glimpse into the brink of war just ahead in the series.

The posters show the aftermath of Season 1's finale, which brought a major death, and hint at Rhaenyra and Alicent's demands for "blood for blood" and "fire to fire." The trailer releasing on Saturday is likely to provide a clearer insight than these images.

House of the Dragon, led by showrunner Ryan Condal, explores the Dance of the Dragons--a brutal, years-long conflict from Westeros history that left the Targaryen Empire in ruins. Season 1 established the groundwork for the impending devastation, as Rhaenyra lost her claim to the Iron Throne to Aegon II Targaryen, orchestrated by the Hand of the King, Otto Hightower. Caution: Season 1 spoilers ahead. The tragic incident involving Aemond Targaryen's loss of control over his dragon Vhagar, resulting in the death of Rhaenyra's son Lucerys, sets the stage for heightened tension in Season 2, scheduled to premiere in the "early summer" of 2024.

The ensemble cast, featuring Matt Smith, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, and others, is set to return for the upcoming season.
