House of the Dragon, the newly released Game of Thrones prequel, continues to perform well in terms of viewership. The second episode, which aired on Sunday night, picked up 10.2 million viewers on all platforms that evening, HBO confirmed this week (via Entertainment Weekly).

This is up by 2% compared to the 9.986 million same-night viewers for the debut episode on August 21. That was good for the biggest opening for a new HBO series in the network's history, and now we know that episode two performed even better.

The first episode, climbed to 20 million viewers in its first week, and that figure has risen again to nearly 25 million in the US alone, HBO said.

Additionally, people are returning to the original Game of Thrones, or watching it for the first time, as viewership of the original show jumped by 30% last week, HBO said. To the surprise of probably no one, HBO ordered a second season of House of the Dragon following the show's big debut.

House of the Dragon Episode 2 contained some shocking twists and turns, and it set up what looks to be a big battle in Episode 3 with Daemon and the Sea Snake fighting the Crabfeeder.

House of the Dragon will soon air alongside another high-profile fantasy series, Amazon Studios' The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which launches its first two episodes on September 1.
