Heroes Creator Plans New Revival Series - Report

Nearly two decades ago, Tim Kring's comic book-inspired superhero series, Heroes, was a breakout hit for NBC. Now, Kring is reportedly looking to revive the franchise with a new series. According to Deadline, the new revival show is called Heroes: Eclipsed, and it's currently being pitched to networks and streamers.

Heroes: Eclipsed will not be a full reboot of the original show. Instead, the story will focus on a new group of people who discover that they have powers. However, Deadline notes that the series will feature "familiar villains and new enemies who once again will be attempting to suppress this next step in human evolution."

The original Heroes premiered in 2006 and featured star-making turns by Milo Ventimiglia, Hayden Panettiere, Zachary Quinto, and Masi Oka. As originally conceived, ordinary people from around the world discovered that they superhuman abilities. But not all of them wanted to be heroic. Quinto played Sylar, a super-powered serial killer who could collect the abilities of his victims, while Ventimiglia portrayed Sylar's heroic counterpart, Peter Petrelli. Peter's ability allowed him to borrow powers from other people.

Although Heroes had a strong beginning, the show's audience tapered off after four seasons and the show was cancelled in 2010. Kring's first attempt to revive the franchise was in 2015 when NBC premiered the Heroes Reborn miniseries. Only a handful of performers from the original series returned, including Oka, Jack Coleman, Sendhil Ramamurthy, and Greg Grunberg.

Heroes: Eclipsed is being produced through Universal Television, and the show has reportedly already been pitched to NBC. But at the moment, the potential revival does not have a home.
