Here's How Doom Eternal Will Run Across All PS4 And Xbox One Consoles

Want to play Doom Eternal at its very best? Xbox One X beats out the PS4 Pro.

Doom Eternal is just over a week away, so it seems as good a time as any to decide which platform you're going to be ripping and tearing on should you have the luxury of choice. We already know that Eternal won't be running at the promised native 4K on Google Stadia, but what about every other platform?

Here you have options, and all of them are centered on resolution. Doom Eternal targets 60 frames-per-second across all consoles, with the output resolution being adapted to accommodate that. One the Xbox One X you can expect a resolution of 1800p as opposed to the 1440p on the PS4 Pro. Both will be upscaled to 4K.

On base consoles a familiar disparity is present. The PS4 will be able to render Eternal at 1080p, while the Xbox One and Xbox One S will upscale to 1080p from a native 900p resolution. All console versions will support HDR, with the exception of the original Xbox One. If you're planning to play on PC though, the sky is the limit, granted you have the hardware to support it.

Doom Eternal is shaping up nicely, and we were impressed with its deep combat in our recent hands-on with the id Software shooter. "Doom Eternal throws everything plus the kitchen sink at you, but gives you all the tools you need to deal with it," wrote associate editor Michael Higham. "While three hours is just a slice of the full game, it's hard to deny that it's extremely well-put-together."
