Sony's PlayStation Network isn't receiving much by way of new games this week. What it will see, though, is a "heavily" anticipated demo. With the full game due out exclusively for the PlayStation 3 on February 23, a free trial of Quantic Dreams' action adventure Heavy Rain is now available for download through the PlayStation Network.

The Heavy Rain demo features two chapters from the full game. The first follows FBI profiler Norman Jayden, who has been brought in to help local investigators capture the mysterious Origami Killer. Gamers will also fill the gumshoes of Scott Shelby, a private investigator hired by the families of the Origami Killer's victims.

How can you all be so calm when it's about to RAIN?!

Elsewhere on the PlayStation Network, gamers will find a number of deals on previously released games and content. Sony has issued a permanent $5 price cut for Patapon 2, bringing the PSP rhythm game down to $14.99. Temporary price cuts are in effect for the Call of Duty: World at War Map Pack ($19.99, down from $24.99) and Trine ($9.99, down from $19.99).

A trio of PSone Classics has been added to the Network as well, all sharing the standard $5.99 price point. Released late in the original PlayStation's life cycle, 2003 driver Dirt Jockey lets gamers tool around with such heavy machinery as a dump truck, bulldozer, and crane. Bullfrog's critically panned PS port Populous: The Beginning is also available, as is Sim Theme Park. PSone Classics can be played on both the PS3 and PSP.

On the PSP storefront, gamers can pick up demos for echoshift and SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3, which arrives in stores next week. Handheld gamers can also pick up the Crazy Taxi and Full Auto 2 "Driving Me Crazy" Bundle, which packages both games together for $19.99. A Sonic Rivals "Set My Pulse Racing" Bundle, which includes the first and second installment in the series, is also available for $29.99.

A full list of the week's deals and new PlayStation Store content, including themes, wallpapers, demos, and add-on content, is available on the official PlayStation Blog.

I've been "heavily" anticipating this game for nearly 4 years now...ever since the Casting Call tech demo was revealed back in 2006. Downloaded the demo from the EU store earlier this week, and I'm remaining cautiously optimistic. I AM a bit worried, though. For a game built on plot and dialogue, the voice acting seemed a bit...well...let's just say I wasn't impressed. Like, at all. Of course I'm still buying this day one (I've had this preordered since last March or April), but the closer we get (less than two weeks now), the more worried I'm getting. My anticipation got burned last year with Scribblenauts...PLEASE, David Cage...do not destroy the last 4 years of anticipation.

I did not think I would like Heavy Rain but I was far from right, I got the demo to at least try it out and now I'm pretty sure I will have a copy before this year ends.

The Heavy Rain demo is great. I played it earlier and it was surprisingly fun! The visuals are just amazing and the animations were the best I've seen in a video game, no question.

Heavy Rain will get GOTY no problem. I was blown away by the demo. It will be a first day purchase for me. I'm glad I purchased a PS3 when I did. PS3's year anyone??

i really thought i wouldn't like this game. I didn't think that it would be my type of game. It actually is something that held my attention and kept me on the edge of my seat.

The titles coming out this year on the PS3 are just incredible. Even though I doubt that anything like Heavy Rain, Modnation Racers, or even God of War 3 will sell like MW2 - I thank the studios for not turning the PS3 into a FPS machine (you know what I'm talking about). There are some things that Microsofts machine will always be in the drivers seat for, but creativity isn't one of them.

I downloaded the Heavy Rain demo, and it's just meh. So you've got what looks like a totally standard serial killer story, and at first I thought it took place in the 1940's, because that's the kind of car the private eye drives. Yes, a big ol' creaky boat. Then I noticed there were some kind of electronics in the game. WTF? Then the FBI agent shows up, looking like a shaky Fox Mulder. And he has some kind of super-spy sunglasses that spot DNA traces at twenty feet. What amazing clues does he turn up? Footprints and blood traces. And a flower in the victim's lapel. I guess the regular cops can't find all of these on their own. Then he turns into a clumsy doofus who can't get up a muddy hill, because the UI makes you struggle to get him to climb. What a challenge! There's a serial killer running around and you get to slide down a muddy hill, over and over! I think I'll just watch Law & Order instead.

Heavy Rain is one game that's going to wear out ps3 controllers (with the fact that just about every second you have to press a button or do a motion on the controller). This might be the 1st game (other than Lair and Warhawk) to really utilize the sixaxis a amount. I played the demo last night and I can't wait for the game to release.

Just played it. And it is great! FF 13, GoW 3, Uncharted 2 (which I haven't bought yet) and now this. So many games... so tight on budget. well... I guess I gotta make decisions and face the consequences.

I played this demo last week and as my blog said.. a masterpiece, finally a developer that decided to go out of the action/FPS million sellers and develop a slow thriller with great fast pacing sequence scene/gameplay....
