Halloween Director In Talks To Film New The Exorcist Movie

Halloween director David Gordon Green might be prepping to resuscitate another horror legend.

Any horror fan knows that the best monsters never truly die. David Gordon Green brought Michael Myers back in the well-received 2018 reboot of Halloween, and now he's in talks to film a brand-new Exorcist film according a report from The Observer.

Blumhouse Productions, the studio that brought us modern horror favorites like Get Out, Paranormal Activity, and the Purge, is reportedly developing a new Exorcist film, with Green as the director. Jason Blum, David Robinson, and James Robinson will produce.

After bringing Halloween back to life, Green filmed a sequel, Halloween Kills. COVID-19 delayed the movie significantly, but the film is now set to hit theaters in October 2021. The Exorcist premiered in 1973, directed by William Friedkin, starring Linda Blair, Ellen Burstyn, Jason Miller, and Max von Sydow as a 12-year-old girl possessed by a demon and the priest trying to free her of the possession.

The Exorcist was a watershed moment for horror films as the first horror film to be nominated for Best Picture by the Academy Awards. Since then, the film has received two sequels, Exorcist II: The Heretic and Exorcist III. The franchise also received two prequel films--Exorcist: The Beginning and Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist. The film was also adapted into a television show by Fox that ran for two seasons in 2016 and 2017.

It's unclear currently whether the movie is a sequel or a full reboot. Previous reporting referred to the film as a reboot, but the Observer's report refers to the film as a sequel. It's worth noting that the new Halloween film is a continuation of the original series, and Jason Blum himself told us that he wasn't interested in rebooting or remaking classic horror films back in November. We also don't know yet where the movie will sit on Green's slate, as he has a third Halloween film and a Hellraiser TV series already in development.

Lol, the company that was founded on the slogan Don’t Be Evil has had their employees form a union in an industry that never has unions, not because the workers want better wages or benefits, but because they want the company to stop being evil and they literally had to take it this far to make the company listen to that simple demand.

Ho god... why do these people aim so high? Hollywood can't make a good freddy krueger remake, or robocop, or halloween... so they go for exorcist? I don't need a crystal ball to know this one will be a pass.

This is one case in which a sequel, prequel, reboot, remake, or whatever is not needed. The original Exorcist is a timeless classic. You can't redo a masterpiece. Please don't try.

@Wartotehlock: Especially the one where all the white people were depicted as nothing but hillbilly nazis out to hunt minorities. Oh wait, that was pretty much all of them, but the third movie actually had people wearing SS uniforms. Those movies weren’t just bad, they were nonsense and propaganda disguised as a “horror” movie.

@Wartotehlock: The concept was okay and I have the whole collection but yet to watch them so I may have to hold judgement until I watch them. But some series first movie is good and the follow ups start to lack and become repetitious.

@lonewolf1044: The concept was good but how stupid the characters were is what really ruined it for me. I wanted to like it but I seriously lost IQ for doing so in the end.

Some movies just need to be left alone.

@nelson85: I agree as the Exorcist is still an shocker and as old as I am I can't watch it in the middle of night. Even the book is so scary to read and the two sequels was good. They picked the right actress to play the lead.

The reboot was terrible though, almost as bad the reboot to friday the 13th.

Another classic to be ruinied by remake, but then again it will get people to watch the original see just how bad the reboot was

Leave the classics alone. These folks need to make their own way and create something original.....pathetic.

@walryder: Only thing good about those rob zombie remakes was that Danielle Andrea was in them, which was only thing that gave them credibility.

I dont think anyone watching a rob zombie movies goes in to think it will be "good"

@walryder: Yes, his Halloween/Halloween 2 wasn't good. His creations, House of 1000 Corpses, Devils Rejects, and Three From Hell are masterpieces! 31 and Lords of Salem also are good. His music is awesome too of coarse. New single is out and he is killing it with that one!!!!

I especially like how the wording makes it sound like Max con Sydow played the little girl possessed like a demon. Way to structure sentences, GameSpot.

Honestly I thought Halloween was pretty bad. Seemed low budget and the script was terrible.

@metsfan421: the reboot, the 2018 one. The original is great. Even the rob zombie one isn't bad. But the 2018 one just feels wrong.
