GTA 5 PC Ships on 7 Discs - Report

By comparison, 2008's GTA IV shipped on just two DVDs.

The upcoming physical PC version of Rockstar's open-world game Grand Theft Auto V will ship across seven DVDs. That's according to the image above, which appeared earlier today on Reddit.

No Caption Provided

The origins of the image are not immediately clear, though the ratings logo suggests it stems from an international market, not the United States.

By comparison, 2008's GTA IV shipped across just two discs. Of course--at 65 GB--GTA V is a substantially larger game than GTA IV, which weighs in at 16 GB.

Another picture of the PC edition of GTA V appeared on Twitter today. Presumably taken inside of a warehouse or retailer, the image shows off stacks and stacks of the game.

GTA V launches for PC in under a week, hitting retailers worldwide on April 14. The digital version of the game is available now to pre-load from the Rockstar Warehouse and Steam.

For lots more on the PC edition of GTA V, check out GameSpot's new interview with Rockstar North and the video below where we discuss the game's new editor and director mode.

And nothing to show for it. I traded my copy in and made half my money back. That was almost a year ago...you know...when it originally came out for us peasant ;)

@Gravity_Slave: Yeah, and that is just like a console peasant, with your play and toss culture. When us PC gamers buy a game, we buy it to keep it.

Hell, we still play 10+ year old games and enjoy them... Unlike you peasant who play a game, toss it and never play games over a year old.

That's like traveling back in time. I remember installing Turbo-C from like 32 floppies close to the end of the floppy era.

Ironically, PC is the platform where physical media is completely worthless anyways. Why bother, just force people to download it.

For people saying Blu Ray release would be a bad idea due to lack of Blu Ray drives in PCs: All it would take would be one or two big games like GTA to release on Blu Ray, and people would start upgrading. They're not exactly expensive.

And to the people suggesting flash drives: This would be a good idea if 64GB flash drives didn't cost half the price of the actual game. It's actually a bad idea when you think about the fact that it would drive the price of the physical copies a lot higher than the digital versions.

I think it's hilarious that the master race brags about being technologically advanced over us peasants but is still behind on the disk format.

@Gravity_Slave: We use it because its still relevant. I have a Blue-ray drive in my computer that can also read Dvds. So i don't give a damn... I'm just going to download it on steam, Where i can play it without worrying about scratches/ruining the disk and having to buy the entire game again.

On a side note, Are you seriously saying we brag about it when clearly consoles are useless without them. I mean have you even tried playing a console game without a disc Pre ps4? It took you 8 generations to realise digital is the way to go and can still only pull 1080/30. GGWP

We don't have a reason to get a Blu Ray drive at the moment, cause people won't release things on them. Upgrading to one would serve no purpose for most of us.

@FreeTheEnslaved: If you aren't watching movies on bluray, then you can start doing that. If you have a console to watch Bluray on, then why bother with a gaming PC. Bottom line is that in one form or another, everyone should have a bluray capable drive.

Any chance a game is made retail on disk, I will always do that option for backup. You will still be installing Steam (or some 'file') so you don't run it from the disk anyways. I'm happy for this.

Most people do not have bluray on their PCs. They do not have any use for it. I haven't come across anything to justify buying one for my main PC. If it were a HTPC, then yea, but since its a gaming rig, and everyday stuff, no.

Oh, and they were expensive when I build this PC. Still rocking on a i7 930.

@Saidrex@hyksiu: What's sad is you need to write this kind of comment to feel better about your feces in a box. My card is far older than a PS4 and I get to play all of my games in 1080p and 60fps. Stop kidding yourself. Nobody's stopping you from using the obviously better system.

@oldtobie@Saidrex@hyksiu: It's dumb to buy a PC to game with. For a big screen TV, anything more than 720p 30fps is not going to be appreciated by most gamers. By gaming on Windows, you support an ecosystem of systematic incompetence regarding directX and an OS that hogs resources at the same time you are trying to squeeze performance from your machine, while costing twice as much to build and must be upgraded at least once or twice within the 6-year lifespan of a console. The math, the logic, the common sense, it all points in the same direction. PC gaming is niche for eccentrics who are irresponsible with their time and money.

I would've thought PC ppl would know about a thing called Bluray. A Bluray combo player isn't much more than a DVD Burner.

@digitm64: It's not much more, but it's practically useless. I have a DVD drive and I use it once every few months to burn/rip a CD. I never watch DVDs on it. Never have.

@digitm64: It IS more though, and trying to play actual Blu Rays on a PC is apparently a big hassle as none of the media players seem to do if right (I don't know the specifics as I've never owned one, but hearing such things was enough to keep me with a DVD player).

Really though, the disc drive gets VERY little use these days, so it makes more sense to go with the cheapest option.
