Groove Games is giving gamers an opportunity to travel down an increasingly familiar path in action games with the announcement of its new game, World War II Combat: Road to Berlin. The M-rated first-person shooter will be released at the end of next month for the Xbox and PC at a budget-priced $19.99.

Eschewing the traditional common soldier role of most WWII FPS games, Road to Berlin instead sticks players into the boots of Stephen Moore, an officer in the OSS (later reorganized into the CIA). A 10-level single-player campaign follows his mission to recover advanced German weapons research, putting him on the bad side of both the Germans and Russians. In addition, both versions will be playable online with a variety of game modes, including deathmatch, capture the flag, and VIP escort.

World War II Combat: Road to Berlin is in development at Seattle-based Direct Action Games. For more on the game, take a look at the official Web site.
