Gearbox confirms new Borderlands 2 class and level cap increase

More information on the new character and level cap increase to be given at PAX East.

Gearbox Software has officially released its previously teased trailer for Borderlands 2's new character class.

No Caption Provided

The new character, which will be Borderlands 2's sixth class, appears to be focused around brutal melee attacks.

Gearbox promises to divulge more information about the new character during its panel at PAX East, and will also reveal details on the long-awaited level cap increase.

More Borderlands 2 information will be dropped during the panel, promises Gearbox.

So far Gearbox has released three expansions for the game: Captain Scarlett and Her Captain's Booty, Mr Torgue's Campaign of Carnage, and Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt. All are available as part of the Borderlands 2 Season Pass, with an additional chunk of content still to be delivered.

The game's fifth character class, the Mechromancer, isn't included in the season pass.

The Gearbox Software panel at PAX East will be held at 12:30 EST on March 24.

The title, the phantom pain could be referring to the fact that his arm is missing, and amputees sometimes get phantom pains.

@Tripwolf @wavelength121 I think you need to deal with a few things, yourself. Bethesdea has been burning people for years, and has one of the reputations for releasing the buggiest games ever....but is Fallout 4 going to sell 4 million copies? More than likely. Your point isn't valid, considering this isn't how the industry works...If it where EA would have closed it's doors a long ass time ago.

Listen guys I'm sure there's a GEARBOX FUCKED UP ALIENS thread somewhere, you guys complaining should probably go there and bitch. This link is to inform fans of Borderlands 2 about new DLC, unless you are just looking for an argument.

F your season passes. Beat the game and grinding for weapons tied to single mobs is stupid. Level cap? This better actually have a LOT of content considering you used the money of ANOTHER GAME from ANOTHER COMPANY to finance your half assed BL2. Game was over hyped. I swear it feels like all the good humor was used up by the time you past the desert.

Your 'rare' weapons are a dime a dozen and their quality sucks.

@telaros You are an idiot. One with poor taste in gamesat that, go bitch in a COD forum somewhere, you know where people don't care about real games, with depth and replay value.

@smokelurchbuds @telaros LMAO! Implying I waste my time on rehashes of war games made me chuckle.

I honestly don't think you played much of BL2 if you think that game is full of 'replay value' or you just really like restarting and playing the same events over in a game. I'll give you that General Noxx's DLC was a great reason to get back into the game, but damn if I'm gonna waste more time on a game that becomes just about grinding particular creatures that have set drops and crappy drop rates.

Where the devs have to fix a reflexive shield (Bee) that actually helped you beat a boss in 30 minutes than huddling in a corner for an hour.

I'd say I'm sorry for disliking certain aspects of a game that was, while fun the first time through and obviously spent all its efforts in teh first half of the game to keep you hooked, but this is the internets. You're within your right to lash out on things your nose is so far up its posterior to really be able to see its lack of innovation.

BL 1 was twice the game BL2 was. Not as pretty, and it too had its flaws, but it had more context and replay value. This sequel was more streamlined and out for laughs. Most of the DLC is a waste of money, money I wish I had back.

If you think the end bosses are so 'fun' and worth farming for shit that adds no real sense of accomplishments and actually felt the fights were 'innovative' and should last so damn long just for barely prettier and gimmicky legendaries? Son, you need to get out more. Read a book. Go play outside. SOMETHING.

BL2 is not gods gift to ingenious game design. It was fun, but it was short. Nothing will change that. It is a *waste* of time to grind a single mob or boss for bs upgrades once you've already done it all. I'd rather move on and play something that actually DOES pertain that replay value that feels rewarding and worth my time.

I guess, I just came from a time when games were about gameplay and not how many purples you've wasted weeks of your life to grind. Or if you were smart, actually change a bit of code and give yourself 255 keys :p

I've gotten burned way too many times by buying a game brand new only to find out all the hype was just that hype. As a general rule now I rent from GameFly and If I like the game then I buy It Used from them. If Microsoft decides to bar used games from being played on their next gen consoles then I can tell you for a fact they will loose at least two consumers, myself and my step son. If they do this we'll go to Sony in a heart beat. These systems are expensive as It is and are hard enough to justify on a tight household budget without adding more to the "game" by taking away the option of playing Used games.

The level cap increase might be coming too late. Me and my friends became bored pretty quickly with Borderlands 2. Maybe this will stir some interest.

@Tripwolf @StaticPenguin There is no proof. The only actual known fact is that Gearbox moved people over to Borderlands which seeing as it's their company it's their right to distribute personnel how they wish. Nothing has ever shown that the money Sega gave them didn't go towards Aliens. Just that Gearbox put more of their people on Borderlands.

I really liked Borderlands 1, and 2 is very fun in co-op however its missing the magic of 1. I think its because of these 4 things.

1.you can't carry much. I had 69 items in 1, and my bank held 50 in 1, Now I get 27 and I don't recall 15 in the bank now? I haven't played since that Hammerlock DLC.

2. Releasing DLC without any kind of level cap increase, item carry increase, no bank space, or anything other then yet another rare thing to collect to buy rare weapons that aren't very good anyway.

3. Creating powerful bosses that needed a Bee Shield to kill in the DLC's in less then 60 min, then nerfing said shield in a COOP no competitive game. You take time to nerf a shield but can't give me more space or a level increase? I don't want to spend 60 min fighting a boss for 6 crystals when the items cost 50 or several hundred and then maybe he will drop a gun or item, but only maybe.

4. Loot. The "rare" guns are tied to one creature that drops it instead of random like before, so you know where to go get the one you want.

This game after you beat the story became killing one boss, over and over, to get his rare weapon. It becomes lets go kill "Bob" 50 times to "Bob's Big Boy Rocket." I liked not knowing what any creature could drop at any time, it made wandering around more fun to find hidden loot chests (why so few in main game this time?), and I find it boring to load one area 50 times to get the gun you want, it's a snooze fest for me. I want to explore and take out anything in the way and have a chance from any powerful thing to drop a random rare weapon. Nothing wrong with Bosses having a higher chance to drop, but make what they drop random like before.

That all said I bought the season pass and this level cap had better be included for free with it or Gearbox and Randy can go rot in a landfill with the trash games they touch since 2009 other than Borderlands like Duke Nukem and Aliens. If you mess this up Randy its strike three and you'll be out. If you charge me for a level cap after I bought the season pass and stood by your only good product since 2009 you'll never see my money again. I don't mind paying for a new character, but have a big problem with paying for a level cap when I purchased 4 expansions blindly and 2 of the 3 released are not very good, too much to ask of your loyal customers.

@MinerAvatar Better drop rates is a start, I have killed some enemies, literally 300 times, with no drop, and those ultimate bosses, having to use an exploit to be able to farm them I have killed 50 times and maybe gotten one RARE, it's just not enjoyable. Along with the lack of infinite NG+ which was asked for and is STILL being asked for, and a higher level cap to make things more fun. BL2 is taking some really BAD design steps...

Borderlands 2 is alright, borderlands 1 was shite thou, having played and passed borderlands2 with its dlc, i can happily say the 50$ was worth it...

And before you go bashing gearbox, perhaps you should read what sega had in store for the game, what its vision was of Aliens... anybody remember...?... a CoD clone...

perhaps its just as well that gearbox didnt make the game right, cuz i cant see it being any better if its just another cod clone.

@gamingfrendly care to provide evidence? Oh wait you can't because there isn't any. The only actual facts known about the situation is that Borderlands moved most of their employees onto Borderlands. At no point has it been shown that they didn't spend the money Sega gave them on Aliens. They just put the majority of their people on Borderlands.

@Celiria_Rose @gamingfrendly Agree 110 percent. Just becuase they wanted to recop thier losses on a bad game that bombed, by supporting a game that was a success, doesn't mean they betrayed anyone, nor did they do anything indecent for doing so.

Borderlands two is the Worst game i played IMO, Visuals make me sick, makes me vomit, compared to other games, there are so little guns, It's more like 20 guns re-skin and re-stats nonstop.

I Don't think the game is bad... It's the visuals makes me uncomfortably sick

I'm Probably the only one on earth hating this game...

Fair enough. At least you gave it a try. Borderlands isnt for everyone, I mean no game is. I'm not really a Battlefield or Modern Warfare fan myself. If I had o list my top 3 series of games this gen I would def say Uncharted, Mass Effect and Borderlands. Oh and Dead Space.

10 hours is no way to play Borderlands.. You obviously just rushed through the story missions. Theres so many cool side quests and extras, and the new dlc adds even more quality. I love this game for being so long and having so much to do! Borderlands is a HOBBY not a GAME.

Found this intersting article online http://www.google.co.za/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=did%20the%20same%20team%20who%20made%20borderlands%202%20make%20aliens%20colonial%20marines&source=web&cd=4&cad=rja&ved=0CEAQFjAD&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.eurogamer.net%2Farticles%2F2013-02-25-several-staffers-on-aliens-colonial-marines-spill-the-beans-on-what-went-wrong-report&ei=NsFCUbGTGLOv7AaTjoCADA&usg=AFQjCNEbLDbudCQfOfc0Np6W-VqRGsSkgQ I'm not saying what Gearbox did was right. It's very sad and unforgivable that Alien fans forked out hard earned cash on a game that was rushed and not a true reflection of ts demo. But I love Borderlands 2 and I"m glad they put all their effort into it, making it the quality game that it is. Just a pitty that Aliens had to suffer for it.

I just don't get it! I have never played the first game, I break down and buy the second game because everyone loved the first game, and its retarded! I'm sorry, but I try to rely on what I see in reviews and comments but the game played like a quarter machine at an arcade. It was stupid that they put in the hit points that popped up next to someone you were shooting. The cartoony look to the game got old really fast and, crap!, I really wanted to like this game and I played as much as I could but, Really people? What is this world coming to? I can't trust anything anymore.

I love the graphics style they used in Borderlands. If you want super realistic graphics in a shooter there are so many Battlefield and MW clones out there but good luck getting a campaign longer that 10 hours out of it.. Borderlands is unique in many ways, not only from a graphics perspective.. Like Celiria said it is an RPG first, shooter second and the levelling up and growing your character skills and gear is highly addictive (to me anyway lol). Also have you tried Borderlands 2 co-op? I think that would also give you a new perspective on the game because Borderlands is fun solo but it shines in multiplayer. Playing with a buddy and creating characters with complimenting skills and weapons is one of the best game experiences I've ever had. And with all the DLC etc you looking at a good quality game that I'm sure by now is over the 100 hour mark. There arent many games that even come close to that kind of quality and longevity.. Hope you give it another try, it really is a masterpiece of a game.. Have an awesome weekend Baron

@Waynespread I enjoyed Borderlands 1 solo for a few hours but after that I wasn't so keen and I've had a few friends who felt the same so I got my brother to come join in and we had so much fun with it! Going through the game just gave an even better experience that way, and the visuals and the humour you could get in it oooooo so good :')

Yeah I love my co op. Borderlands, Army of two, even the Lego games are fun co-op. Looking real forward to Diablo on PS3 with 4 player co-op that's going to be awesome.. Closest we going to get to Champions Of Norath. LOVED that on PS2. 4 player was so much fun! Love Renegade Ops co-op as well. Finished Resi 5 with a friend, was soooooo short! Very disappointed was hoping for a nice long game like Resi 4. What platform you game on Jubeio?

@Waynespread They need a lot more coop games, I mean me and my brother enjoyed resident evil 5 and 6 together, but there are so many games that had it on PS2. They also need 4 player multiplayer with bots in shooters so you and some friends or family can get togetyher get tons of gaming food and sit playing games all together while having a laugh

Indeed. I love playing co-op with friends I think thats what makes gaming the most fun for me. It's discovering new enemies and taking down huge bosses as a team. And when you"re both in fight for your life mode and you get a kill to revive yourself, then revive your buddy and finish off the boss, surviving with an inch of health left! Then you look at your wingman and give him the "secret handshake" that just means YOU DA MAN, what a rush! LOL. There are so few co op games around these days, Army of Two being the only other I enjoy. If Gearbox can continue to keep this series fresh and fun I"ll be buying Borderlands 3,4,5,6.....

@Baroni88 your mistake is you went into it looking at it as a FPS. Its an FPS RPG with a heavy emphasis on the RPG. Those numbers are a core part of the experience because thats what the game is about. Loot and numbers.
