Computer manufacturer Gateway has sold the Amiga trademark, a name that was synonymous with video gaming in the late '80s, to Washington-based Amino Development. Gateway, which was awarded the Amiga trademark in 1997, elected to sell the name after integrating Amiga's software engineering into its own product-development group earlier last year.

"Amiga, as a personal computer brand, has a loyal following of fans around the world,'' said Gateway VP Peter Ashkin. "Now that we're bringing that development work into Gateway product development, it made sense to find a buyer for Amiga.''

Bill McEwen, Amino CEO and president, didn't specify what his company plans on doing with the Amiga name, stating only that the Amino "can finish the job that was started 15 years ago."
