GameStop not getting enough PS3s to fill preorders

Azianai: Oh wait what country am I in... oh that's right America, where 360 did sell out.... japan...honestly could care less if the 360 sells there or not. MS has survived just fine without the pacific country and it will continue just fine now. Only difference this time is that they Japanese developers are actually developing for 360 this time. Thank you Capcom for the 360 Exclusive Dead Rising.... As for the fanboyism and bad press... Sony has already dug their own grave. 2 million PS3s by the end of the 2006?? Possible if you include Japan's alotments. The Blu Ray format.... not quite working out as well as Sony wanted (no dual layer being mass produced, video reviews coming back as poorer quality than HD DVD). Half the gaming media sites saying that Sony has been ripping off functions from it's competitors (i.e. Motion sensing controllers....wonder where they got that idea from....). Honestly I just want to see Sony fall flat on it's face that way it might learn something.... don't rest on your laurels, and to survive in this industry you must be an innovater not merely imitate and improve on the competition.

Crimson_Raven Check the Books dude MS sold about 200,000 360's on day one in the states and SONY is not even going to have 100,000 for launch in the US and also Europe isn't even getting any and MS had just enough for Europe. Thants Right I'm a 360 Fanboy and I'll be laughing it up for all you Sony chumps finally get a PS3 @ $600 for a toaster oven and playing 8 games till next year. Guess I'll just keep on chopping dudes in half on Gears of War. 1st off it has not been confirmed how many systems were cut from the launch. 2nd you dont know if those systems are being sent to BB,CC or other places. And as far as pissed off people goes the 360 launch is still a disaster compared to this. It took GS/EB over a quarter of a year to fulfill preorders for the 360. I have a 360 and GoW is great but honestly Sony will offer some titles to rival GoW and blind fanboys like you will be missing out. And Sony is sending weekly shipments which is a lot more than MS did after the 360 launch. Xbot am cry?

Typical of EB/Gamestop. I'll wait it out and get my unit from Walmart or Best Buy. If I'm not successful, no big deal since there isn't much at launch. I thought they were supposed to get 100,000. And another 400,000 were coming here? Not keeping up to date with the news but still bashing Sony whenever you get the chance with not so witty remarks, eh? :P They announced that the 100K units were cut to mere 80K last week. I assumed that HK and Taiwan were getting those but that's not the case. << LINK REMOVED >> I guess there is a chance that NA will get more than 400K. then why are they not having all these problems? Unlike the 360 and PS3, the Wii isn't exactly cutting edge hardware so it's more reliable to mass produce quickly and fill everyone's orders. In the PS3's case, shortage of blu ray diodes is the cause that's plaguing other standalone BD players from Sony and Pioneer as well. Even the HD-DVD camp is having supply problems with diodes currently.

I loved it when they called me to tell me the 360 was "delayed" until next year. Like I would not run out and get the system on day 1 from another vendor. Gamestop/EB is just out to rip everyone off. They always preorder 3x more than they get then notifies users after everyplace else is sold out. Now all the people that made the mistake of order a PS3 might as well wait til they get more in. Meanwhile they stroke the cash you just lined their pockets with....

That sucks.

The good thing about console launches: Anything can happen. The bad thing about console launches: It usually does. IMO on the "blame game", the fault lies on both sides. Sony, for providing a guesstimate. GameStop, for believing the guesstimate.

If the Wii is launching the same number of consoles and preorders are sold out like the PS3 (according to the Gamestop in Manhattan that I was at today) then why are they not having all these problems?

I just feel bad for the Gamestop/Eb employees that will have to tell people that they aren't getting their pre-ordered console. However, I was #2 in line, if I don't get one I'm gonna bash that $20 dvd over the clerks melon.

It completely sucks that GS employees have to wait. "Asked" is a loose term for disciplanary action. I am canceling my reserve that I freaking traded in a TON of stuff for and am going down to camp at Wal-Mart. I have never waited past day one to buy a system and I sure ain't starting now. As for buying systems with good games, why the heck are you buying a Wii for? Zelda? It's on Gamecube, and every other Wii game is a lousy port for the most part except for mediocre ExciteTruck and Red Steel. Give me an Insomniac game any day.

since the conversion to the new POS system, employees do have to wait. if a ps3 is sold without rez , red flag, if a employee picks up his rez during launch period, red flag. freakin sucks, oh well. could be worse.

I knew this was going to happen!!! That's why I didn't bother to pre-order, espically for $100 freakin' dollars!! I live in SoCal and there is a little hole-in-the-wall game store called Gameplay by where I live. They took no pre-orders and it's strictly first come, first serve. I know a guy that works there and they will get 10 PS3s for sure!! That's where i'll be pitching my tent in line!!

I don't get some people. Why would you buy hardware when it doesn't currently offer any worthy software? Sorry, one game (Resistance) will never warrant me buying a $600 piece of hardware...regardless of it's POTENTIAL. Fanboys need to make the change into real gamers and support the systems with more than one good game available. (not to mention available hardware) I play PC, 360, soon Wii, DS, PS2, whatever has the good games. As far as Gamestop/EB asking it's employees to wait for the 2nd wave...that's b.s. If you want first dibs on anything cutting edge dammit get you a job in the industry, one end or the other. Those of you that have never worked retail will never understand how badly most of us that do HATE most of you, your ignorant family that asks stupid questions over and over and over, your spoiled brat arse kids, and the public in general. Yes, I'm soon getting out of retail before I pummel the next person that asks if PS3/360 games will work in their old PS2/Xbox. VyseN1 Well first it's "Gamestop" not "Gamespot". It was Sony who cut the initial shipment again! EB/GS only took very limited pre-orders, so a big part of the blame goes to Sony. EB/GS did screw up last year, but they were very cautiious this year. That's why they said this year you are not guaranteed a system if you pre-order. Extremely cautious would have been doing it on a first come, first serve basis. Period. P.S. My bad on the typo, didn't mean to hurt your feelings.

Crimson_Raven: You should know your numbers before you go rubbing things in. JAPAN is the one that had less than 100,000 PS3s on day one. The US us supposedly getting 400,000 on day one, and they will all sell out within a few days at the most. Also, as a side note, grow up.

JUST RECIEVED a phone call from gamestop WHILE i was reading this news item and the yutz said i was absolutely guaranteed a ps3 on friday , since i paid in full when i preorderd. , bust a move uhuh uhuh !

And the same miscommunication happened with the 360 last year, and the PS2 five years prior. Way to go Gamespot, instead of just doing first come, first served, you decide to pull the preorder trigger with one month to go. You almost made it. So sad. I stopped dealing with EB when they botched the Madden release with me waiting in line and not getting it.
