Gameloft hits 20 million paid iOS downloads

Parisian mobile game publisher achieves massive milestone thanks to more than 160 titles available on Apple's App Store.

Gameloft announced this week that it has sold more than 20 million copies of its paid games on Apple's App Store.

The company has been well known for putting its titles on sale, as well as playing developer and publisher for a number of film adaptations like James Cameron's Avatar, Iron Man, and Shrek Forever After. It also has a number of its own franchises, including Let's Golf, Skater Nation, Bridge Odyssey, Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance, and Asphalt Racing.

The one-time Ubisoft-owned company has also handled handheld and downloadable-game development on a number of popular gaming franchises, including Assassin's Creed, Prince of Persia, and Splinter Cell.

A quick look at the company's catalog shows that it has more than 160 titles available on the App Store, an increasing number of which have both an iPhone and iPad variant, as well as a free or "lite" version for people who want to try the game out without making a purchase. Still, the company says that out of the 47 titles it has published in the last nine months, 25 of those have hit the top spot in Apple's paid games list, with 42 reaching the top five.

Gameloft says 15 more games are on the way by the end of the year for both the iPhone and iPad. The company also continues to develop for other platforms, including Android, WebOS, and feature phones. In May, Gameloft announced that it had hit 330 million paid downloads across all these platforms.
